Founding date controversy
[edit]I have removed the following paragraph from the article for lack of sources. Stating that the fraternity's version of its history is false because it is not included in two yearbooks falls under original research (the lack of something does not prove a positive, so this is the editor's conclusion). Saying that the founders did not attend the university because they are not in the alumni directory also falls under original research because there is no founders' list. The last sentence, which is the most important, is unsourced.
- While the Upsilon Phi Sigma asserts that it was created in 1935, there is no documentary evidence to prove that it existed before World War II or that it had a chapter at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.[1][2] The fraternity also says that Upsilon Beta chapter was established at University of the Philippines Diliman.[3] However, UP Diliman did not exist as a campus until 1949 and has had no record of an Upsilon Phi Sigma since then.[4][5] Finally, none of its alleged founders were alumni of the University of the Philippines Los Baños from the late 1930s to early 1940s.[6] This has led many fraternity historians to believe that the foundation story and list of founders was fabricated to claim lineage, and there is reason to believe that the Upsilon Gamma chapter is actuality its first chapter and the fraternity was organized at Manuel L. Quezon University in the late 1960s.[citation needed]
