- Agreed. Sephardim would naturally spell it "Tsere" or "Ṣere", Ashkenazim would naturally spell it Tzeirei or something like that. The use of Z for "ts" is German; but then the "ei" combination would sound different. Outdated information in article
[edit]In Modern Hebrew tzere – with or without a following yod – may be pronounced as [ej] and transliterated as "ei or "ey". Such pronunciation and transliteration of tzere are not correct in the normative pronunciation and not consistent in the spoken language.
As far as Modern day Hebrew is concerned, this is completely outdated in ascertaining what constitutes "normative" pronunciation and what doesn't. There are a plethora of words where the Tzeirei is consistently pronounced as /ey/ by a majority of Hebrew speakers. This has been the case for at least the past 25 years or so.
