Improving the page and moving this out of start class
[edit]I have worked on the lead adding information about the book that moves beyond the argument (e.g., publication, adoption, translations). This book is one of the most highly influential books in modern political theory and the page does not communicate this.
The introductory summary argument in the lead is, in my opinion, still too long. I will tackle this another day -- and invite others to edit. Shaftesbury'sPipe (talk) 20:19, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
Reception Section
[edit]I have written a new section about how the book was received by scholars in the references section. I read through all of the sources, and picked out ones that made their stances on Mills' work very clear. I compared sources that had positive reactions to the book to others who did not agree with Mills' points. I have recently gone back and fixed some grammar and spelling mistakes, as well as formatting footnotes and citations. All of the links should lead directly to articles from the references section.
Having this section shows the influence of Mills' work, whether it was viewed positively or negatively. It shows how he expanded traditional contract theory to include conversations of race. It can lead others looking into thinkers such as Hobbes to learn more about other kinds of social contracts, including the sexual contract. Mills' contributions to political philosophy were very engaging, and I'm glad that I have learned so much through the editing process. M30 05 (talk) 21:06, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
