Lots of unsourced content

[edit]

The article says that Salmaci was scheduled to fight Joe Calzaghe for the WBO Super-middleweight championship, but that the fight was cancelled due to an injury Calzaghe suffered during training and never rescheduled. I've been looking for something that might be a reliable source for that statement, but have not had any luck so far. I did, however, find this BoxRec page on Calzaghe which shows that he won the title by beating Chris Eubank in October 2011 and then defended it twice in 1998 and twice in 1999. There is a bit of a gap between his second and third title defenses. The BoxRec page on Salmaci that he fought once in 1998 and twice in 1999. Salmaci was 20-0 after his first in 1999 so a title shot does seem sort of plausible, but I cannot find any mention of it anywhere. There's quite a lot of unsourced content in the article that has been that way for quite a long time. Maybe it's time to start removing some of this content per WP:BLPSOURCES and WP:V until proper sourcing can be found? -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:58, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've done a bit of clean up and removed some of the unsourced content and added Template:citation needed to some items as well. I initially added a "cn" tag to the statement about being inducted into the Arab American National Museum, but ended up removing that as well because I'm not sure how someone get's inducted a museum. Perhaps it is supposed to be the "Arab-American National Hall of Fame", but I couldn't find anything on that at all online so I decided to remove it. If it can be properly sourced, then it can be re-added. I also removed two categories since I cannot find anything that connects Salmaci to them. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:30, 17 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Professional record

[edit]

@Taricksalmaci: The BoxRec page cited in the article lists Salmaci's (your?) professional record as 19 wins and 3 losses, so another independent reliable source is needed to show that the final record was actually 20 wins and 3 loses. If you know where such a source can be found online, please add the link here and I'll be happy to add that to the article. Please note it needs to be something which is not WP:UGC, but it could be something that Salmaci (you?) has published if the conditions of WP:BLPSELFPUB are met. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:07, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Protected page

[edit]

I've protected the page for a week to deter edit warring from the new account. I'm aware that it's been blocked, but if he does get unblocked before the week is up, this should hopefully encourage him to discuss edits on the talk page. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:02, 2 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Full article update by subject (Tarick Salmaci)

[edit]

Hello, I am Tarick Salmaci. I am submitting a formal request to update my Wikipedia article to reflect accurate, factual, and first-hand information. The current article includes a false statement claiming I withdrew from a scheduled fight against Joe Calzaghe — that rumor was fabricated by a former manager after our professional split and is not true.

I have prepared a full draft of the corrected and expanded article below. It includes verified biographical information, details from my amateur and professional boxing career, and properly licensed photos via Wikimedia Commons. All of the content complies with Wikipedia's standards for neutrality, sourcing, and licensing.

I respectfully request that this updated draft replace the current version of the article. I am available to answer any verification questions if needed. Thank you for your time and consideration.

@Salmaci123: A couple of things.
First, your previous account Taricksalmaci was soft blocked as a precaution for the reasons given in WP:REALNAME. Then, several other accounts technically linked to your original account were subsequently blocked for violations of WP:SOCK. So, before you do anything else, you probably should go to User talk:Taricksalmaci and request that your account be unblocked as explained in WP:UNBLOCK before requesting any more edits be made to this page or creating anymore new accounts.
Second, the images you uploaded to Commons (at least four out of the five) were previously uploaded using your old account, but they were all deleted for the reasons given at c:User talk:Taricksalmaci. You've already been blocked a few times by different Commons administrators for repeatedly uploading content with questionable licensing using your old account, and one of the files you've just upload using this one has already been deleted for being a copyright violation. You might want to go back at take a look at the messages left for you at User talk:Taricksalmaci and c:User talk:Taricksalmaci because you seem to be understanding some very important things about Commons; you might also want to take a close look at c:Commons:Licensing, c:Commons:Own work and c:Commons:2D copying for reference. If you continue to reupload previously deleted files or files with questionable licensing, the chances of this new account being blocked on Commons will only increase.
Next, please don't try to rewrite the entire article here on this article talk page, even as part of an edit request. If you want to create a draft, you can create a userspace draft, and then add a WP:WIKILINK to that draft to your edit request; however, a total rewrite is very unlikely going to happen to begin with, especially one written by the subject of the article, regardless of the article. If there are things in this article that you feel are incorrect, feel free to point them out; please understand, though, that any changes you feel should be made are going to need to be supported by reliable sources (as defined by Wikipedia) and are also going to need to be in accordance with other relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines (e.g. Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons). Edit requests tend to work best where they're brief and properly supported by reliable sources; for example, if the content in the article about the Calzaghe fight is incorrect, then providing a WP:SECONDARY reliable source that states something other than what the cited BBC source states could help clarify things. Simply claiming it was a rumor started by a former manager isn't sufficient for Wikipedia's purposes per WP:ABOUTSELF.
Lastly, if you've got any questions about the files you uploaded to Commons, you can ask them at c:Commons:Help desk. If you've got questions specifically about WP:Conflict of interest editing and making WP:EDITREQUESTs, you can ask them at WP:COIN. If you have general questions about Wikipedia, you can ask them at WP:HD or WP:TEA. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:25, 5 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
