Geography section is confusing!
[edit]Why does the section titled "Geography":
1. Begin with discussion of Surabaya's economic development (human development index, business and employment opportunities, standard of living)?
2. Include a historical reference of no stated or obvious relevance to geography: "the city of heroes,,,Battle of Surabaya"?
3. Discuss Surabaya's ranking in various fields of no stated or obvious relevance to geography: "important financial, commercial, industrial, transportation, and entertainment hubs", "the second most significant city after Jakarta", "one of the cleanest and greenest in Indonesia"?
4. Include subsections titled "Architecture" and "Parks and Gardens"?
This "Geography" section is unlike that of any other city I've come across on Wikipedia. Zahzuhzaz (talk) 18:27, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there.
- I recently gave a few suggestions for the Geography section of Surabaya page. Maybe you can take a look if you’re interested. Pasha Dwantara (talk) 05:05, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

Suggestion: Revision for the Geography section of Surabaya
[edit]As a Surabayan myself, I just read the Geography section and unfortunately, the information surrounding the Geography of Surabaya is still very limited. I found it to be very confusing when the Geography section suddenly starts with the economic development (HDI, Standard of Living, Opportunities), and then continue by talking about historical references (ex. City of Heroes), and closed with the city’s rankings in various fields. What’s more bizarre is that the subsections of Architecture, as well as Parks and Gardens are in this section as well. Because of that, I suggest several revisions for the Geography section:
1. Emphasizes Surabaya’s geographical location (Ex. Surabaya is situated on the northeast coast of Java, at the mouth of the Brantas River Delta. It is located near the Madura Strait, etc.)
2. Explains which type of plain Surabaya lies (Alluvial, Lacustrine, etc.), how many rivers are in Surabaya (both natural and artificial), what Surabaya is prone to (flood, earthquake, etc.) with that geographical condition.
3. Emphasize Surabaya’s air cleanliness. Is it polluted? Is it clean? Shows the real data of the air cleanliness rate in the city.
4. The Architecture subsection must be placed either in the Infrastructure or Culture section. The Parks and Gardens subsection must be placed under the Infrastructure section.
5. Remove any mentions of Surabaya’s historical or economic development references in the intro to the Geography section, and emphasizes point 1-3 of my suggestion.
If anyone else have responses, feel free to respond by giving new ideas or suggestions. Thank you and have a nice day. Pasha Dwantara (talk) 05:03, 27 November 2025 (UTC)
