I don't think that the quote "Queene Elizabeth of famous memory, did more desire it than any other herb to strew her chambers withall."-—John Gerard, Gerard's Herbal--is correct. It's not in my, admittedly abridged version of Gerard, although his other oft-quoted words on Meadowsweet are. 'The leaves and floures of Meadowsweet farre excelle all other strowing herbs for to decke up houses, to strawe in chambers, halls and banqueting-houses in the summer-time, for the smell thereof makes the heart merrie and joyful and delighteth the senses.' I think this might make a better quotation here.

The words 'Queene Elizabeth of famous memory, did more desire it than any other herb to strew her chambers withall.' may come from another herbalist of the period, John Parkinson.
