Possible copyvio

[edit]

The History section has a possible copyvio notice. Unfortunately the webpage referred to does not appear to exist. There doesn't appear to be a way of checking this claim now so should the warning tag be removed? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 16:56, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

https://web.archive.org/web/20180302103817/http://www.simulations.co.uk/Colmans%20Wharf%20History.htm has a copy of it. As I noted only vaguely in an earlier edit summary I think there are some transcription errors here, when that web page quotes a newspaper story (The impression of inscrutability conveyed by the gaunt impressive is cancelled out by the feverish activity inside). Thanks for digging that out, I'll have a look at the article again.
The second bit is missing the word exterior Murgatroyd49 (talk) 17:39, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Is that missing word verified from the original East London News article? I couldn't find a copy online. Belbury (talk) 17:41, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's why I haven't put it in, it's obvious from context but not verifiable. The whole history section is very clunky and needs a rewrite. I'll declare an interest, one of my great-grandfathers was the general manager around the time of WW1. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 18:00, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @Murgatroyd49 and @Belbury for flagging this. I know putting my stonking-great post above yours looks like I'm "cutting in line." It feels weird but future editors need know right away not to repeat the copyright violation. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 02:48, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for following this up, given that nobody had stepped up to fix the issue in five years, but your sense of weirdness about talk page order is an intuition of WP:BOTTOMPOST (which actually takes the opposite view, that a thread being added at the top "can easily be overlooked"). Threads should be in chronological order, and future editors will expect that to be the case, rather than threads being listed in order of importance. I've moved it below. --Belbury (talk) 06:19, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
