Talk:Soros Fund Management
Add topic| The content of Quantum Group of Funds was merged into Soros Fund Management on 12 December 2025. Overview update
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The changes suggested removing content that is well-cited or where sources exist. |
Hi editors, I'm making this request as part of my work for Beutler Ink, on behalf of Soros Fund Management.
I propose updating the Overview section of the article, which is currently a bit outdated, doesn't really provide an overview of the company, and has some information not relevant to Soros Fund Management. This is what I propose:
Extended content | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
References Rendered, it looks like this: Soros Fund Management is an investment management company and the family office of founder and chair George Soros.[1] It is headquartered in New York City and led by Soros and chief executive officer (CEO) and chief investment officer (CIO) Dawn Fitzpatrick.[2] The office had approximately US$25 billion in assets under management in 2025.[3]
SFM invests in stocks, bonds, commodities, and currencies, and has made private equity investments, as well as investments into distressed sovereign debt, cryptocurrencies, and art.[4] As of 2019, SFM primarily managed funds for Open Society Foundations.[5]

This fixes several issues with the section as it stands now:
- Updates what the company invests in and removes the not clearly reliable and broken Hoovers source
- Removes the mention of Robert Soros stepping down and David Milich taking over. This could be moved to 2012 to to 2025, but as it stands that is not relevant because Dawn Fitzpatrick serves in the role those men did.
- Updates Fitzpatrick's title to note she is both CEO and CIO
- Explains the role of George Soros with the company
- Adds where the company is headquartered to the article body, which is currently present only in the infobox, appropriate per MOS:IBP
- Removes mention of George Soros's donation to Hillary Clinton. This is information relevant to the article on George Soros. Nowhere in the cited Politico source is SFM mentioned, and its inclusion is this article therefore does not make sense
- Updates the company's primary function from Quantum adviser to Open Society Foundations adviser per the more recent sourcing
- Overall improves the completeness of citations
I think these proposed changes make for a section that provides more accuracy and context for an overview of Soros Fund Management. Please let me know what you think, happy to answer any questions! Because of my COI I'm proposing these changes for volunteer editors to review. Cheers, BINK Robin (talk) 16:09, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
Not done: The proposed changes are removing content that is well-cited or where sources exist. Czarking0 (talk) 04:50, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Czarking0: I am not sure I quite understand. The sentence about the donation is cited to a reliable source, but that source does not mention Soros Fund Management anywhere in it. The donation is not WP:RELEVANT to this article. That said, to make things a little easier I'll split this into smaller requests. Cheers, BINK Robin (talk) 17:29, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
Merge proposal
[edit]Hi editors, I propose merging Quantum Group of Funds into Soros Fund Management. The content of Quantum cannot be explained without the broader context of Soros Fund Management, and likewise the Soros Fund Management article needs the broader context of Quantum to offer a complete picture to readers. Further, more than half of the content in Quantum is a near-direct duplicate of what is in Soros Fund Management.
I think this article meets the criteria of WP:MERGEREASON Nos. 1, 2, and 5, while the merge would not make the Soros Fund Management article overly long (No Merge Reason No. 1), and so a merge of the two articles makes sense.
Please let me know what you think. I'm proposing this as part of my work for Beutler Ink, on behalf of Soros Fund Management, and will defer to the consensus of volunteer editors. Cheers BINK Robin (talk) 16:13, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- @BINK Robin: Thank you for the clear proposal and for outlining your potential COI. The proposal is very reasonable, and given that it is unopposed,
Merge completed Klbrain (talk) 19:09, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Klbrain Thank you very much for reviewing and taking the time to implement the Merge. Cheers, BINK Robin (talk) 19:39, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
SFM primary function
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
Hi editors, I propose updating the following sentence in Operations from:
- Soros Fund Management is the primary adviser for the Quantum Group of Funds; a family of funds in international investments.[1]
To
- Soros Fund Management is an investment management company and the family office of founder and chair George Soros.[2]

Because
The function and role of Soros Fund Management changed in 2011. This change makes the article more accurate and up to date.
Please let me know what you think! Cheers, BINK Robin (talk) 17:31, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
Not done: The article should not seek to document only the current status of the fund. If the role changed, find a way to historically describe this rather than replace outdated claims Czarking0 (talk) 20:38, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Czarking0: The change is documented in History in the sentence In July 2011, the fund announced plans to return just under $1 billion to investors by the end of 2011 to avoid reporting requirements under the Dodd-Frank reform act and to focus on family investments.
- The Operations section should be current, up to date information from my understanding. Based on that, would you reconsider? BINK Robin (talk) 22:00, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- The sentence you excerpt here does not cover the information you are proposing to remove Czarking0 (talk) 00:52, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
