Title

[edit]

Can someone please change the page title to smartCAT, according to the latest rebranding (see e.g. main page at www.smartcat.ai)? I don't know how to do this. VZakharov (talk) 05:18, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Comparison Table

[edit]

Can someone convert the comparison table to a more appropriate view, with green/red cells, and whatnot? VZakharov (talk) 09:07, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

The Mysterious Matter of the Missing CafeTran

[edit]

I don't know how much of this you may have been following, but there are strange powers at work here on Wikipedia. For several years now, people have been trying to create a page for CafeTran. However, no matter what people do, the page is blocked every step of the way. Now, I know that if you are a professional translator, you will probably have heard of CafeTran by now. Hell, Proz.com, the largest platform for translators in the world offers it for free now as part of their Plus Package!

Anyway, the Wikipedia goblins have since removed ALL traces of all the hard work that we but into trying to create a page for CafeTran. Have a look at what is left:

Then go to:

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_computer-assisted_translation_tools

… and look at all the CAT tool that ARE allowed to have their own pages:

What on earth is going on here?

If CafeTran is not ‘notable’ (I think that was their main reason for now allowing a page about it), then it would stand to reason that most of the above CAT tool articles should also be deleted, right?

COI edit request: typo and citation fixes

[edit]

I work for Smartcat (disclosure on my user page) and am therefore not editing the article directly. The following are uncontroversial technical fixes; no content or POV changes:

1. In Products and services, first sentence: "Smartcat is an translation and localization platform" → "Smartcat is a translation and localization platform" (typo).

2. In the infobox launch_date reference, the publisher parameter reads "publisher=Slator]" with a stray bracket → should be "publisher=Slator".

3. In Business model, the reference for "customers in over 100 countries" has "website=localhost" → should be "website=Increment".

4. In External links, I suggest removing "Job openings at Smartcat" — a job-listings aggregator link that does not meet WP:ELNO. (Yes, I am asking to remove a link that benefits my employer's recruiting.)

Thank you for reviewing. Mostapenko (talk) 21:26, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

COI edit request: lead description and founder attribution

[edit]

I work for Smartcat (disclosure on my user page), so I am proposing these changes here rather than editing directly. Both are sourced to independent references already used in the article.

1. Lead sentence update. The current lead describes only the pre-2023 product ("combines CAT, TMS, and other translation technologies, and a marketplace"). Independent 2024 coverage describes the current product differently. Proposed replacement for the first paragraph, keeping neutral tone:

"Smartcat is an enterprise-focused, AI-powered translation and localization platform. It combines machine translation and AI-based content generation with computer-assisted translation (CAT) and translation management tools, and operates a marketplace of freelance language professionals."

Sources: TechCrunch ("AI-powered translation platform", ref name="tc"); SiliconANGLE ("Enterprise-focused AI translation platform and marketplace operator", already cited in Products and services); and Manufacturing Dive, which independently describes Smartcat as "an AI-driven translation platform" (Owens, Nathan. "Manufacturers leverage AI translation technology to improve worker communication", Manufacturing Dive, 6 April 2026, https://www.manufacturingdive.com/news/manufacturers-leverage-ai-translation-technology-to-improve-worker-communication/816695/).

2. Founder attribution. The History section notes Ivan Smolnikov left ABBYY LS "to fully focus on Smartcat" but the article never states he founded the company. Independent coverage of the 2024 Series C supports this: SiliconANGLE writes "founder and CEO Ivan Smolnikov" (https://siliconangle.com/2024/09/10/enterprise-focused-ai-translation-platform-marketplace-operator-smartcat-raises-43m-funding/ — already cited in Products and services), and TechCrunch (ref name="tc") describes him as "co-founder and CEO". I propose the History sentence read: "ABBYY LS's founder and CEO Ivan Smolnikov also left the company to fully focus on Smartcat, which he co-founded." — using "co-founded" per the more conservative TechCrunch wording, or whatever phrasing reviewers consider best supported.

I'm happy to provide further sources for either of these. Thank you. ~~~~ Mostapenko (talk) 21:47, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Red X symbol Declined I'm not comfortable using TechCrunch as a source. (See WP:TECHCRUNCH.) Regards,  Spintendo  18:57, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for reviewing, and understood. I've read WP:TECHCRUNCH and won't press the point. Resubmitting both items with TechCrunch removed entirely; both are now supported by sources independent of it, including one already cited in the article.
I've narrowed this to the first sentence only. The current wording ("combines CAT, TMS, and other translation technologies") predates the product's shift to AI, which the existing second sentence then partly contradicts. Proposed:
"Smartcat is a cloud-based, AI-powered translation and localization platform for businesses. It combines computer-assisted translation (CAT) and translation management tools with machine translation and AI content generation, and operates a marketplace connecting businesses with freelance translators."
Sources:
  • Slator (already cited): "Enterprise language AI platform provider Smartcat…blends translation workflow, translator productivity, collaboration, and an expert linguist marketplace on one platform — allows users to translate content and create new multilingual content by leveraging AI."
  • Triangle Business Journal (above): "Fundamentally, Smartcat uses AI to create, translate and automate content in more than 280 languages."
  • Manufacturing Dive (Owens, Nathan, 6 April 2026, https://www.manufacturingdive.com/news/manufacturers-leverage-ai-translation-technology-to-improve-worker-communication/816695/): "an AI-driven translation platform".
I'm not attached to this exact phrasing — if reviewers prefer a smaller change, simply adding "AI-powered" to the existing first sentence would address the main issue. Thank you again for the time. ~~~~ Mostapenko (talk) 18:21, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

AI

[edit]

I reverted this to its pre-AI state, specifically reverting the changes added here, WP:AISIGNS including AIATTR, promotionality, etc. Also note that this person removed their own text 10 minutes after adding it because they found it "unencyclopedic," which raises the question of why they even added it in the first place (hint: because AI spat it out and they didn't check beforehand)

There is no need to implement the AI-generated comments by the PR flak above. Gnomingstuff (talk) 16:55, 26 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I used an AI assistant to help draft the requests. I’ve read WP:NOLLM and understand why that was a problem. I won’t use it for Wikipedia discussions again. I’m stepping back from the article. For clarity, my only edits on Wikipedia are my user page and these talk-page requests. Mostapenko (talk) 20:38, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
