Sexual intercourse → sex (penetration) – Sex is the most common name for what this article is about. Nobody refers to it as sexual intercourse. That is overly long. Fish567 (talk) 20:26, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

Explicit images should be removed

Sex is more than about pleasure or reproduction

I think the reasoning for sex in this description should be updated. There are a lot of reasons people have sex: Pleasure, reproduction, obligation/ agreement, performance (such as porn), cultural expectations, experimentation, and more. 73.163.126.112 (talk) 16:23, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Dildos are used on more than just men

The description notes the use of dildos, but only gives the example of a woman using one on a man anally. It should be updated to be more inclusive. For example: man on man, woman on woman, man on woman, they/thems and other non-gender or transgendered people, etc. 73.163.126.112 (talk) 16:28, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Why does "copulation" redirect to this article?

"Copulation" usually refers to non-human mating behavior instead of human sexual activity. Shouldn't Copulation (zoology) be titled Copulation instead? Jarble (talk) 18:51, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Title should be changed to PIV Sexual intercourse to avoid confusion

This article seems to inform others about heterosexual/reproductive acts. It would be very beneficial to change the title to PIV Sexual Intercourse so it won't mislead people, especially those who don't practice this act or who feel uncomfortable with the breeding subject matter. Not only is that not needed, but it actually creates confusion instead of alleviating it. First, the lead more than adequately disambiguates; several sentences are devoted to alternative forms. Second, "PIV" conflicts with the content of the rest of the article, which covers more than PIV. Third, it creates confusion: I had to look up the acronym as I had never heard of it, and I could not find it in the first three RSs I checked. Jtrevor99 (talk) 05:02, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

"Penetration" for fingering

In this article, fingering is described as penetration of the vagina. It can include penetration, but it doesn't necessarily mean that. Stimulating the vulva with a finger is still fingering. "lose virginity to"

I'd like to see more objective descriptions related to the first time a male or female person partakes in intercourse for the first time. The sentence that is particularly bothering me is " The CDC also reports that American girls will most likely lose their virginity to a boy who is 1 to 3 years older than they are"

Firstly, it is a misreading of the data presented in the cited CDC report. While it does survey the ages of first sex partners, it does not determine the likelihood of age for first intercourse. Instead, it looks at the correlation between the age of first partner and the use of contraceptives. Based on that alone, the sentence should be removed altogether.

Secondly, this language is juvenile and does not reflect the seriousness or content of the CDC source cited. The writer uses "boys" and "girls" when the CDC report is specifically about teenagers and uses the more neutral and age appropriate term "female teenagers/male teenagers." The framing also assumes that female teens are "losing" something by taking part in sexual intercourse, which is rooted in patriarchal ideas of purity and the assumption that female people lack the agency to determine their own sexual activity and pleasure gained from that activity. Perhaps women/teens do gain something when they first have intercourse?

I'm new to wikipedia editing and can't make changes to this article because it is restricted. But this one sentence irked me enough to open an account and advocate for its removal. The CDC report has a lot of valuable data related to contraceptive use and the disparity between how female teenagers and male teenagers felt about their first intercourse, but it does not say anything about who is likely to first have intercourse with who.

 Done, not because of the wording, but because the data was simply not supported by the source, which was in fact breaking down the general desire of that first encounter by age of partner. Scissoring, Frotting, etc.

Should examples of non-penetrative sex such as scissoring and frotting also be added as forms of non-penetrative intercourse in the opening paragraph? The focus on penetrative sexual intercourse seems to be in contravention of WP:GENBIAS and as such should be remedied. Addi-4th (talk) 15:36, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

dubious first intercourse claim

Here's the quote in the article:

Concerning United States data, tabulations by the National Center for Health Statistics report that the age of first sexual intercourse was 17.1 years for both males and females in 2010.

This does not tell us anything about the cohort on which this is based. Typically, such a summary should indicate either the ages of the people they asked or people born in a certain range of years. The claim made that age of first sex was the same for both males and females is at least suspicious. Is that a result of the methodology or is it just a coincidence?

These claims about (mean?) age of first intercourse should either be seriously improved or simply removed. See revision of 9 February 2013 for the relevant edit. Fabrickator (talk) 10:00, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
