Tail rings can be “unlocked”? What does this even mean?
[edit]Hi, I’m just a reader. I just read the description of this page, which says:
“Their prehensile tail is composed of square-like rings that can be unlocked only in the most extreme conditions.”
I haven’t even the slightest notion of what is meant by this sentence. The linked article does not mention the words “locked” and “unlocked” as far as I could see. This is very confusing terminology, which might need some clearing up. Can seahorses cut off their own tail like geckos? Can they change the shape of their square rings? Can they cut off the rings from each other? I’m eager to learn. Jutphaes (talk) 12:46, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
I can now see that I am not the first who asks this question. It seems that it may hint at removing something from the tail’s grip? Anyway, it’s not clear. Jutphaes (talk) 12:48, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Combine consumption and conservation sections
[edit]this whole page could use a reorg but title states one thing in particular. Make the info about TCM more concise, no need to focus on it so much. Project Seahorse is a great resource. Meandrian (talk) 22:59, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
