For me it seems that the name corruption does not come from Ashurbanipal but merely from Ashur-nadin-apli. We do not know much about his reign but what left is not a description of a highly educated ruler. There is a high chance, that Diodorus mixed the story of the two rulers into one. Maybe with the goal of demonizing the assyrians.
