State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness → STAAR – The standardized tests in Texas are referred to in sources by the acronym: "STAAR". As the concise and common name, readers are more likely to search with the 5-letter term. WP:CRITERIA overrules common name. Support. In Texas, it is commonly known as the STAAR tests and STAAR testing. For example, in news reporting "STAAR" will be in the headline even if its official name is somewhere in the text, and it's not unusual for the official name to never be printed in news article text at all —Texas Tribune usage | Houston Chronicle usage | Dallas Morning News usage | San Antonio Express-News usage | Austin American-Statesman usage | El Paso Times usage | Corpus Christi Caller usage.
