Improvements and comments/questions

[edit]

This article had a variety of syntax errors and awkward sentences which I fixed. It also had a bunch of images all over the places. Most of them were in the wrong section or in the wrong timeframe. I reorganized them by placing the ones that have a correlated text next to each other and the rest, mostly random images, in a gallery. A few images and a video were useless so I removed them. I have a variety of comments/questions.

1. " It would remain under Austrian Habsburg rule for over 450 years (except for a brief period of French rule between 1809 and 1813) until the end of World War I in 1918 when it was occupied by Croatian and subsequently by Italian irregulars."

This section should be moved under "Under Habsburg rule".

2. "The further industrial development of the city included the first industrial scale oil refinery in Europe in 1882[20] and the first torpedo factory in the world in 1866, after Robert Whitehead, manager of the "Stabilimento Tecnico Fiumano" (an Austrian engineering company engaged in providing engines for the Austro-Hungarian Navy), designed and successfully tested the world's first torpedo. In addition to the Whitehead Torpedo Works, which opened in 1874, the oil refinery (1882) and the paper mill, many other industrial and commercial enterprises were established or expanded in these years."

There are a couple of issues with this section. First, the chronology is not in order. Second, the torpedo factory opened in 1866 and in 1874 which is impossible since it could only open once. The above should be revised accordingly.

3. "Trsat castle, south" is not a good caption. South what? View from the south side? Clarify.

4. What is "Fascist putsch"? Explain.

5 The 3 images at the bottom of "The territory of Fiume part of the Kingdom of Italy" section need captions.

6. "The city's fate was once again solved by a combination of force and diplomacy."

Should "solved" be replaced by "sealed"?

7. "In 2018, it was announced that, 65 years after the abolition of Italian as the official language of the city, new Croatian-Italian bilingual signs will be placed back in the Fiume part of the modern united municipality."

Did it really happen?

8. "In 2020, Rijeka was voted the European Capital of Culture alongside Galway, with a planned program including more than 600 events of cultural and social importance."

This is already mentioned in the introduction. It's redundant.

9. "Oretta Fiume, Fiuman-Italian cinema star of the 1930s and 1940s, with her final role in Fellini's La Dolce Vita"

Is it that important to mention "final role in Fellini's La Dolce Vita"?
