Pronunciation of name
The opening gives [ˈɡɪtˤɑr]), as the local pronunciation for the name of the country, presumably in Arabic. However, the IPA for Arabic has no g grapheme. What is intended? Venqax (talk) 13:12, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
- The Arabic letter qaf (the first letter of Qatar) is commonly realized as [g] in many Gulf dialects Pinuzzo (talk) 19:30, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. That should probably be noted in the IPA for Arabic. Venqax (talk) 15:59, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- IPA for Arabic contains Moden Standard pronunciation only. Attempting to make one that displays the possible pronunciation of all dialects would be quite an undertaking. However, the footnote in the Arabic IPA guide does list possible realizations of qaf, including [g] Yejvik (talk) 18:19, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Not done: I'm pretty sure it's correct as written. The references to "Kassite" in this article are referring to the Kassite people, not the mineral kassite. The photograph in that section of the article isn't of a mine that dug up kassite, but an excavation of a historical site used in the Kassite people's dye industry. ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 13:26, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
Human rights in Qatar
Please take steps to add information about recent reports of the death of migrant workers in Qatar in 2021, most of whom were South Asians and were reportedly being overworked by their masters and forced to live in poor working conditions. It should be added under the Human rights section.
Looking forward to your response.
Thank you.

This sub heading should be more appropriately be renamed "Lack of human rights in qatar"
Why has the section about assault of dozens of women at the airport been removed? This is a whitewash in preparation of the FIFA world cup in 2022. After qatari officials forcibly removed dozens of women from waiting airplanes and then sexually assaulting them on the tarmac there has still been no apology or compensation. There has not been any proper investigation. If you are a woman in qatar or even just passing through your life is meaningless to qatari authorities.

To reflect Qatar's questionable human rights situation on the lede section to achieve balance as a middle power. A sentence such as "Human rights in Qatar has been regarded by scholars as being generally poor, with restrictions on individual rights such as freedom of expression, as well as its usage of hundreds of thousands of mostly South Asian migrant workers for construction projects in the country." could be placed at the last paragraph. 123.213.223.39 (talk) 05:44, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Human rights abuses
Why does this article not have a section on human rights abuses in Qatar? It is not a secret that women, gays, religious minorities, and immigrant workers are oppressed and persecuted in the country.
Having no section in the article about this is clear censorship and events is the typical lack of transparency in the country itself. 2601:644:4482:E110:D5FA:B75C:29F4:5DA5 (talk) 20:10, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Qatar's human rights violation
In my opinion, it is necessary to add about Qatar's violation of human rights, for example (possible death penalty for members of the LGBT community, violation of human rights for foreign workers) and more.
Why the human rights violations is not mentioned.? Qplb191 (talk) 12:37, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

In 2012, Qatar retained its title of richest country in the world (according to per capita income) for the third time in a row, having first overtaken Luxembourg in 2010. According to the study published by the Washington-based Institute of International Finance, the per capita GDP at purchasing power parity (PPP) was $106,000 (QR387,000) in 2012, helping the country retain its ranking as the world's wealthiest nation. Luxembourg came a distant second with nearly $80,000 and Singapore third with per capita income of about $61,000.The research put Qatar's GDP at $182bn in 2012 and said it had climbed to an all-time high due to soaring gas exports and high oil prices. Its population stood at 1.8 million in 2012. 12.38.208.90 (talk) 19:13, 24 May 2024 (UTC)

In "Foreign relations", it is stated:
"With Qatar and Egypt as mediators, Hamas proposed a deal which would include the release of all Israeli hostages in Gaza and hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, and an end to the war.[179] "
However in the article from Guardian, it is clearly stated that Hamas only offered temporary ceasefire, not end of the war. This is a critical difference and puts the whole negotiation in different perspective. It should be changed in text accordingly.
Text that should be removed:
"and an end to the war.[179] "
text that should be put instead:
"and a temporary ceasefire.[179] " Midas dan (talk) 14:30, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

It is also not clear why this request seems to frame the wording as a binary choice, when the source appears to use the phrases "ceasefire" and "an end to the war" in an inter-related and/or interchangeable manner. You might be able to build consensus for an alternative word choice that incorporates both perspectives. Dear Wikipedia Editors,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request permission to update and expand the content of the Wikipedia page on Doha, as I have identified areas that need more depth and current information. My aim is to ensure that the page presents a more comprehensive and balanced representation of Doha, especially as the city continues to gain global recognition.
Proposed Edits: History and Economy:
Add details about Qatar's efforts to diversify its economy under Qatar National Vision 2030, moving beyond oil and gas to focus on sectors like tourism, education, and sustainability. Discuss recent economic challenges and progress, incorporating credible sources like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Labor Rights:
Introduce a balanced section on migrant worker rights and ongoing labor reforms, as this is an integral part of Qatar's international narrative. Information will be sourced from the United Nations LDC5 meeting and peer-reviewed articles. Transportation:
Expand the section to include updated information on the Doha Metro and other public transportation systems, with details on connectivity, ticketing, and recent developments sourced from Qatar Rail and MOFA. Tourism:
Add insights into Qatar's tourism initiatives and infrastructure improvements to better inform potential visitors. Geography and Climate:
Include additional details on seasonal weather patterns and topography using updated government and UN data, providing practical information for residents and visitors. Supporting Sources: The edits will rely on reputable and up-to-date sources such as:
The Encyclopaedia Britannica Qatar Rail Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State of Qatar United Nations Least Developed Countries 5 (LDC5) documents By incorporating these edits, I aim to enhance the page's objectivity, completeness, and usefulness for readers seeking a detailed understanding of Doha. I believe these updates will enrich the article by reflecting the city's current status and ongoing development.
Thank you for considering my request. I would be happy to provide a detailed outline of the changes or discuss them further if required.
Best regards,

Numbeo claim on safety ranking
Added under the heading of Crime and Safety, the following excerpt has been added, citing an article published on Issuu, written by the Marhaba Information Guide, that is based in Doha, Qatar .
"Qatar has been ranked the "world's safest country" by a Numbeo crime index of 142 world countries.[5]
Numbeo has continued issues over verifiability or veracity of data sourced, since it is entirely user reported and open to easy manipulation.
As excerpted from the article linked above
"Data on Numbeo is not peer-reviewed, and could be inserted or altered by anyone accessing the website. It has been criticized for its inaccuracy due to its ease of statistics misuse and general disinformation."
Therefore since Numbeo is considered unreliable, any news articles, etc that cite Numbeo itself should be taken with a pinch of salt — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harbin91 (talk • contribs) 22:15, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

- Qatar is a monarchy, so it is natural to be authoritarian. Datawikiperson (talk) 12:50, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Monarchies can indeed be authoritarian, even totalitarian in some cases. Qatar, for instance, is not a modern constitutional monarchy because power remains heavily concentrated in the hands of the ruling Emir. There are no meaningful checks and balances, political parties are banned and the legislative body is largely advisory (literally called "Consultative") with limited authority. These characteristics are inconsistent with the principles of a constitutional monarchy, where the monarch's powers are typically restrained by a constitution and accountable institutions. And yes, this is not exclusive to Qatar, but all of the Gulf monarchies. You're welcome to add such information for them if you want some balance. Aleain (talk) 16:20, 26 June 2025 (UTC)

"Relation to terrorism" section
This section reads like a propaganda piece straight out of Mossad HQ - it's WP:UNDUE and violates WP:NPOV. It's also WP:SYNTH as it currently stands, especially with the 9 September Israeli strike being included, as I'm not aware of any reliable sources that established a connection between Qatar's "relations to terrorism" and the unlawful strike of a negotiation team in a country that was asked to host them. That connection is not made in the current text either. Lastly, there's no precedent for including such sections in country's wiki articles as far as I can see, even for extreme state sponsors of terrorism such as Pakistan and Israel. Pinging @Fidjeri: and @Abo Yemen: since they're involved. Elspamo4 (talk) 07:11, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hallo, the fact that there is a such a section, there is a solid base for the section since this is a very notable controversy surrounding Qatar with a great impact on regional geopolitics (just for example, remember than in 2017, several Arab states disconnected relations with it due to its involvement in terror). Regarding the way things are presented, anyone can rephrase or edit, not to simply delete such sourced information, or even add other opinions about the country's relation to terror. Rather then violently deleting information, the right way to go, just improve and add more sources and views on the topic to make sure it reflects better the different views on the matter. Fidjeri (talk) 07:37, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm aware it can be edited to fix NPOV and SYNTH, but this doesn't answer UNDUE. I've taken a look at other countries articles, and I haven't found another one with an "accusations of terrorism" section or something similar. Mentions of terrorism are usually integrated into the main text, eg in the history or human rights section, and such mentions are still extremely rare; for example, Afghanistan has only 2 mentions of terrorism in the whole article, despite that being the absolute first thing most Americans would associate the country with, and despite being ruled over by what the US government considers a terrorist group (even till today). To add to that, Pakistan, the UAE, and Israel - all countries recognized as major terrorist sponsors by much of the world community - have no separate sections on their relations to terrorism. Granted, that doesn't necessarily mean this article shouldn't have one, but it does support the view that consensus leans towards a controversial subject like this being addressed in the main body of text rather than split off to its own section.
- My opinion is that all of Qatar's alleged relations to terrorism can be explained in the history section. For example, we could write in the "History" section something like: "in 2012, at Israeli government's request, the Qatari government agreed to host the Hamas' main political office outside of the occupied territories.[1]" or "Qatar supported the election of Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi as president of Egypt in 2012[2]. Really, all accusations of terrorism can be addressed directly in the history section, with proper background and context rather than a separate section which reads like a hit piece. Elspamo4 (talk) 04:29, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Fidjeri YOU have to get consensus for a section to keep a section that violates WP:NPOV, WP:UNDUE, and WP:CSECTION. Please self-revert and start an RfC instead of continuing with this disruptive behaviour 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 09:39, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

An edit has presumed consensus until it is disputed or reverted.

- If articles on Russia include corruption and those on Israel address alleged apartheid, genocide, or colonialism, then the information about Qatar’s ties to terrorist groups must remain. Removing it while keeping such content elsewhere would create too deep a bias. Editors who support including controversial issues when discussing other countries but oppose adding such controversies here breaching neutrality, full stop. The presentation of this issues can be addressed in a way consistent with Wikipedia's neutrality policy. However, information with extensive coverage, especially content that has affected Qatar's international relations within the Middle East and beyond, should not be removed. Disagreeing with it does not justify whitewashing verified and widely reported material. HHRIA123 (talk) 10:49, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- No one here is "white washing" anything and you're not advancing the conversation by assuming bad faith.
- Your argument, that it wouldn't be neutral to remove this section since similar defamatory information is present on other articles, is a false equivalency, as hosting groups that are designated as terrorist groups at the US' direct request is very different from, say, Israel committing an active genocide. Furthermore, WP:Otherstuffexists. The reason I brought up other country articles is to note that there isn't a single stand alone section that reads like a hit piece on those articles like there is on this one. The information is actually integrated into the articles, with proper context. Adding a section on e.g. state terrorism on the Israel article would be outrageous and undue weight despite having more than enough reliable sources to state so. We're writing a Wikipedia here, not righting great wrongs, and it doesn't help having an WP:UNDUE WP:Coatrack section. Rather, all it does is advance a particular narrative, based on incomplete context, in wiki voice. Elspamo4 (talk) 18:51, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- No input here on whether the discussed section should be included or not, just warning you that you're arguing with some Indian who has a beef against Qatar and is editing religiously in almost every Qatar related article despite poor English, and a zionist (possible IDF soldier from their propaganda unit) who just exposed themselves with the "alleged" genocide part and other "boo-hoo" Israel related things (as if anybody asked), so of course they need to smear a rival country, which Qatar obviously is to them. The question is - who's ACTUALLY the bad faith actor here? 83.23.17.37 (talk) 01:47, 16 October 2025 (UTC)

- @Fidjeri So what? I've pointed out that it violates at least 3 policies. WP:IMPLICITCONSENSUS ends the moment something is challenged:
- The content you keep trying to delete, has been part of the article for a very long time. It had a consensus for such a long time and you cannot wake up one morning and decide to delete it. Fidjeri (talk) 09:51, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello. The line "According to the V-Dem Democracy indices Qatar is 2023 the second least electoral democratic country in the Middle East" (under "Politics") is grammatically faulty, and therefore also unclear. I would suggest changing it to something like "According to the V-Dem Democracy indices, as of 2023 Qatar was the second lowest in the Middle East Electoral Democracy Index." Two more issues: 1. The archived source attached to this statement is from 2022, not 2023. 2. Perhaps it would just be better to bring the statement up to date to the latest version of the index. According to the 2025 report, Qatar is still second-last in the Middle-East on the Electoral Democracy Index, and seventh-last in the world (173/179).
By the way, I am new to Wikipedia, and English is not my primary language. I apologize if I am not operating within the accepted procedures here.

This is so true, and they dont automatically give you the permissions to edit automatically when you're experienced enough. The admins there gotta like you first 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 14:19, 30 October 2025 (UTC)- @Abo Yemen Thank you, it's nice to hear at least that it is not just my experience... You can take a look at my user there and see that someone there just denied almost all of my edits just because they didn't like how I moved some tanwins to the letter before the alif, and then replied pretty evasively to my questions and complaints. Maybe I'll get back to editing in Arabic at some point, as our Wikipedia needs so much improvement, but people here have just been so much nicer and more welcoming. Maybe the two issues are not unrelated... غوّاص العلم (talk) 12:22, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
Should Demographics in Info Box be Separated into Citizens and Non-Citizens?
As the title suggests. I didn't want to make this change without consulting first, and potentially hearing from people's general experience and wisdom on this.
I think that at least for the population part we should also put down citizens and non-citizens, but perhaps we should also include details of ethnicity and religion for citizens in particular? It seems kind of odd to me to fully group together the citizen and-non citizen populations as if they are exactly the same to the country. Giving the overall statistics obfuscates the fact that the citizens of the country are basically 100% Muslim (Mostly Sunni with Shia minority) and Arab.
I'd like to hear what other people think. Of course, if there is agreement that this is an appropriate change to make, it would make sense to also make it in other countries with massive non-citizen populations, such as UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc.
Many thanks,
The Diver (Ghawass) غوّاص العلم (talk) 13:02, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- no, since that part of the infobox is for ethnic groups and not the other demographics 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 13:06, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hello brother Abo Yemen,
- I'm not sure I understand your response. Yes, there is a part of the infobox that is about ethnic groups, one that is about religion, and one that is about overall population. My suggestion is that It is not necessarily the natural choice for these boxes to only show the statistics for overall residents of the country, when only ~12% of them are citizens. Surely you at least agree that the "population" part of the infobox is misleading as is, simply saying the population is over 3 million, when actual citizens of the country number only about 1 10th of that? Why not add "Citizens: X / Non-Citizens Y / Total X+Y", or something of the sort? غوّاص العلم (talk) 13:34, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- Diving a bit more into these matters, note how the Qatari National Planning Council Census calls the citizens "Qatari" and the non-citizens "Non-Qatari". It just doesn't make sense to me for us to put up the statistics for Qatar's population with no distinction between citizens and non-citizens. غوّاص العلم (talk) 14:05, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

For about a year, the section on Qatar's connection to terror was included in the article for the last year. The section is properly sourced, relying on WP:RS. Recently, certain users have been trying remove it, claiming that it violates Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. Other countries have sections on notable controversies on their Wikipedia pages, for example Afghanistan#Human_rights, Saudi_Arabia#Allegations_of_sponsoring_global_terrorism, Myanmar#Genocide_allegations,_Organ_trading_and_human_trafficking, Nigeria#Communal_conflicts, Venezuela#Corruption, Egypt#Freedom_of_the_press.
Should we restore the following text in the article? Fidjeri (talk) 08:55, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
Relation to Terrorism
Qatar has been criticised for allowing terror financiers to operate within its borders, with accusations originating from intelligence reports, government officials, and journalists. In 2014, U.S. officials, including David S. Cohen, claimed that Qatar had failed to take action against blacklisted individuals living freely in the country. Despite introducing anti-terrorism laws in 2004 and updating them in subsequent years, Qatar faced allegations of supporting groups like Hamas, which it denied, stating its goal was to facilitate constructive engagement with the Palestinian Authority. These concerns contributed to the Qatar diplomatic crisis from 2017 to 2021.[3][4][5][6][7] Fidjeri (talk) 08:55, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

- @Fidjeri This is not a neutral RfC statement. The statement should only be "Should we restore the following text in the article?" plus the text. You can move the

paragraph to your own !vote. Otherwise, this violates WP:RFCNEUTRAL 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 09:08, 23 October 2025 (UTC)- I stated the facts the way they are, it is your interpretation about the neutrality of the Rfc. You can make an Rfc on my Rfc Fidjeri (talk) 10:26, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- (summoned by bot) @Fidjeri: You may be 100% correct on the content issue, but I agree with Abo Yemen regarding the RFC question: this is not the kind of neutral RfC question required by WP:RFCNEUTRAL. Specifically, WP:RFCNEUTRAL requires a brief, neutral statement that sets out the question of the RFC. I would encourage you to withdraw this RFC and begin a new one with a the simple statement, "Should the following text be restored to the article? (followed by the quoted text)" You can argue your reasons for including the article text in your !vote or in the discussion section, but it should not be in the RFC question. If this is issue is not resolved, this RFC will probably be speedy closed as malformed. Aoi (青い) (talk) 20:06, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

Diplomatic section
Sorry to use top level text. I have no idea about how this works. Hopefully, my text wont remain for long and the problem will be cleared.
In the diplomatic chapter, it is said the Qatar has strong bonds with 6-ish countries including Iran, with a source (#181 as of now). But following the link shows a defense agreement between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Maybe SA is missing in the list? Maybe there s been some edit error removing SA and Iran source?
Leaving you to manage this. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-34947-7 (talk) 23:45, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
