[edit]Question - why is the painting of Clement 12 on this page? Isn't this an article on Clement 13? -lg
- In spite of the confusing misnaming of the Image, this is indeed the plump Rezzonico pope, Clement XIII, in Pompeo Batoni's portrait in Galleria Venezia, Rome. His profile appears on a medal struck in his honour: illustrated here. He might be mistaken for his predecessor Benedict XIV, but never for the lean-faced, sharp-chinned Clement XII. Some generous soul might enter the painter's name into the template: I don't know how, and template-makers never think of such details. --Wetman 07:47, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Rampant nepotism?
[edit]"Rezzonico was notorious for his rampant nepotism throughout his pontificate." A version of this statement appeared in the lede back in 2004 and has since slipped into the body of the article. I can't find any evidence for this in the sources or other mention of nepotism in the article, so I'm taking it out. Tigerboy1966 10:05, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
Ancient noble family
[edit]Pompeo Litta, one of the most important historian for the Italian nobility, is clear about the origin of Rezzonico family and their relation with the ancient Lords of Milan. Why remove also this information ? ~2026-74154 (talk) 18:16, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Why use an outdated unpaged source, WP:AGEMATTERS. Why ignore what the current source states? --Kansas Bear (talk) 18:20, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- But Litta is not a source about medecine or science, and Kelly is not an expert of history of genealogy of the Italian nobility (and Litta was), why not at least a more neutral version of the family origin ? ~2026-72800 (talk) 18:36, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Litta is outdated, whereas Kelly was a British theologian and academic at the University of Oxford and his book is published by Oxford. Continued changing of what a referenced sentence states can be considered disruptive editing.

- "Kelly is not an expert of history of genealogy of the Italian nobility
- Kelly isn't required to be an expert on history of genealogy of the Italian nobility. --Kansas Bear (talk) 18:47, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- If Kelly is not an expert of history of the Italian nobility is not at all a source for his family's origini ! Anyway i repeat: why not a more neutral version of the phrase ? It I use as source a book of Alvise Zorzi, for sure a better source for Venetian history, Will u remove the information (again) ? ~2026-72800 (talk) 19:06, 4 January 2026 (UTC)

- "If Kelly is not an expert of history of the Italian nobility is not at all a source for his family's origini !"
- Clearly that is your opinion. If you think an Oxford theologian published by Oxford is not a reliable source, I suggest taking your concerns to the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard.
- "Will u remove the information (again) ?"
- Are you going to continue to ignore what the Oxford published source states? If so, then I will revert to the sourced version, since you clearly don't have consensus. --Kansas Bear (talk) 19:10, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- But Kelly could not be a source for everything (as genealogy !) "only" because his work is published by Oxford, and so, Yes, a theologian (if he is only a theologian) la never a source for genealogy ! See also the section Context matters in Wikipedia's "rules" for a "really" reliable source !
Anyway I repeat, if in the next change I will use a work of Alvise Zorzi, will u respect this famous and "recent" (died in 2016) italian historian ? ~2026-72800 (talk) 19:22, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Anyway, you've not shown any work(s) by Alvise Zorzi, who isn't an Italian historian, but a journalist. So I'm not agreeing to anything sight unseen.

- By your own logic, a journalist can never be a source for genealogy! Context matters in Wikipedia "rules" for a "really" reliable source. --Kansas Bear (talk) 21:21, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Alvise Zorzi was not only a jourmalist but also an historian, the chairman of the international commitee for sources of Venetian history and a Unesco consultant (see his bio in italian Wikipedia), He was by far (!) the most important expert of the Venetian patriciate of his times (He was also a member of the Venetian nobility asociation, descendant of one the oldest families of the Venetian nobility) ! Do u know something about his several historical works about the patriciate for talking about him as only a "journalist" ?
- And what about at least the more neutral version "a noble family, recently admitted in the Venetian patriciate" ? Why not ?~2026-72800 (talk) 22:16, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Still a journalist.
- "a noble family, recently admitted in the Venetian patriciate"
- What about, "Carlo della Torre di Rezzonico was born on 7 March 1693 to a recently ennobled family of Venice's patriciate". Using, "Molding the Model Bishop from Trent to Vatican II", Celeste McNamara, Church History, Vol. 88, No. 1 (MARCH 2019), page 76. --Kansas Bear (talk) 22:57, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- And then anyone could call Kelly was so then a simple "Chichester canon" if u want simply call Zorzi a "journalist"! Anyway i leave the talk because i understand that u'll never permit to change the phrase about the Pope's family origin. Ok, if u want a fake information on this wiki, i can't do nothing ~2026-72800 (talk) 23:08, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
