Active ministry

[edit]

If DOB is correct then Fr Gumpel must now be 99 years old.

Is he still living? Is there no replacement relator for the Cause of Pope Pius XII? Having searched on Google briefly I can find no answers.  Preceding unsigned comment added by XVI Chancer (talkcontribs) 05:15, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well as we now see, this chain-smoking legend made it to a great age. Rest easy, Father. XVI Chancer (talk) 01:03, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Pseudonym

[edit]

Kenneth L. Woodward published an article on Fr. Gumpel in America Magazine following Gumpel's death. In it he reports that Gumpel told him his name was a pseudonym, and that he was actually born into the Hohenzollern dynasty. Woodward did not report which branch. Birth Origins??

[edit]

This American article asserts that Peter Gumpel was secretly a member of the Hohenzollern family.

The German version of this article asserts with equal confidence that he was the son of a Jew who converted to Catholicism, named Kurt Gumpel.

The German version speaks of unconfirmed rumors about his connections to the Hohenzollern clan, but also cites a newspaper source for his having been the son of a family of Jewish bankers. And the American article that provides the basis for the claim of Hohenzollern kinship (currently footnote 9) seems to me little more than speculation.

This is a significant discrepancy that should at least be flagged, if not cleared up. ~2026-14158-20 (talk) 09:22, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
