Significance of the pectinate line.
[edit]The anal canal is lined with mucous cells — mucosa. At the top are columnar cells similar to those of the rectum. At the bottom are flat squamous cells. In between, there are transitional cube-like cells. The boundary between the transitional cells and the squamous cells is called the pectinate line.
