history poorly told to hide genocide

[edit]

Virtually everything is written with hatred and by someone who isn't Paraguayan or who doesn't know their history. For example, they portray the López family as tyrants, something only countries like Brazil and Argentina, which committed genocide, would say to hide the facts of the war. The war is called the War of the Triple Alliance, not the "Paraguayan War." They also emphasize the second war against Bolivia, which was quick and won by Paraguay. It's very clear that the editors use inaccurate information and it's written with great disrespect for Paraguayan history. ~2026-30285-90 (talk) 10:48, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

source for Paraguay's name in Guaraní?

[edit]

Every website that mentions Paraguái Tavakuairetã looks like it probably took the name from Wikipedia, & I found nothing that even elaborates on the name at all. CennDHelicity (talk) 13:36, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

It's "Republic of Paraguay" directly translated into guarani. I don't have my dictionary on me right now, and unfortunately we don't have a proper guarani dictionary online, but I'm pretty sure of this. I'll update with an exact source on the dictionary, page included.
I don't think most Guarani speakers would know this word. In Paraguay there's a significant discontent with how Academia has approached guarani, which is quite disconnected from what's used casually in everyday conversation.
Here's the article for "Republic" in the Guarani Wikipedia: https://gn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tavakuairet%C3%A3
Lastly, official documentation by the Paraguayan goverments refers to it as "Tetã Paraguái" CB400appreciator (talk) 23:25, 7 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
