Contextualizing the mutilations/testimony from Djamila Amrane and a general note about the neutrality of the article

I would like to add some precisions in reference to this part from the article "According to Bernard Droz [fr] and Évelyne Lever, "these mutilations were carried out by the survivors of the local population, the day after a particularly brutal ratissage, or raid". This part is vague, and does not precise the nature of the crimes that were committed by the soldiers from the 9th regiment who were later killed in the ambush. Djamila Amrane, the author of Les femmes algériennes dans la guerre (1991) (page 134, references Ali Khodja who lead the attack), explains that the mutilations were not arbitrary acts of savagery, but acts of revenge carried out by Algerian women from the region, against French soldiers who had previously committed sexual violence during raids against these same women. This claim has also been reported by political scientist Belaid Abane in this conference (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udT3OoqKL2E&t=2982s&ab_channel=AokasCulture) starting around minute 47 (In french). In addition, writer Mouloud Feraoun noted in his journal that these same French soldiers had recently conducted brutal operations in the region, further supporting the idea that the ambush and its aftermath occurred in a context of preceding violence by these French soldiers (including rapes of local women) against civilians. Including this historical testimony would provide critical nuance, especially given how the mutilations are often discussed in isolation from the systemic violence of the French military at the time. And as a side note, I find it problematic that all sources on this article, except one (Abderrachid Mefti) are those of French historians or from the French side. For neutrality, the article should have both the Algerian and the French perspectives.
