Postnominal OM

I've just become aware of this award, and it seems odd that "OM" would have been chosen as the postnominal, given that OM is already used for the Order of Merit. It's certainly possible that a Canadian person could be given both awards, and they'd be, e.g. Bill Smith OM OM. I appreciate that "Order of Manitoba" virtually demands OM, but what about the pre-existing postnominal? Did this problem not occur to anyone when they were deciding on the most appropriate postnominal? The other issue is that, someone seeing say "Neil Young OM" (as I did, which led me to this page), is liable to believe they're a member of the Order of Merit, when they're not. -- JackofOz (talk) 07:24, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Lieutenant governor's badge

Is the lieutenant governor's badge in the infobox useful to the reader? Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Icons#Avoid flag icons in infoboxes is a longstanding guideline, and although it refers specifically to flag icons, the reasoning applies equally to coats of arms and heraldic badges. I recommend the badges be removed from the infoboxes in the articles for all the provincial orders:

• Alberta Order of Excellence
• Order of British Columbia
• Order of Manitoba
• Order of New Brunswick
• Order of Newfoundland and Labrador
• Order of Nova Scotia
• Order of Ontario
• Order of Prince Edward Island
• National Order of Quebec
• Saskatchewan Order of Merit

I was hoping we could avoid this... I believe you're creating a problem where none exists. Do you have any other rationale for removing them aside from "it's in the Manual of Style"? I'll note that both Order of Nova Scotia and Order of New Brunswick passed GA recently and no one brought this up. -- MediaKyle (talk) 19:32, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
