Oldest professional football club?

I'm confused why it is said that Nott Forest is the oldest professional football club in the world on the first paragraph on the page, isn't Notts County the oldest professional football club in the world? EDIT: I forgot to sign because I'm still new on Wikipedia even though my account is old. However, I asked this question while I wasn't using my account, glad it was edited on the page. Actually, Sheffield F.C. is the oldest club in the world. Notts County was, and Forest is, the oldest club currently playing in the top four tiers of English football. 2001:BB6:4713:4858:9D32:CF2:28D6:4FE5 (talk) 09:05, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

Notts Forest

Notts Forest is an incorrect abbreviation of Nottingham Forest. Nottm Forest is the correct abbreviation. Regardless, neither of them is a nickname of the Club. Correcting to The Reds. Fgn (talk) 00:24, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

City Ground

There have been 2 City Grounds, the first was formally called the Town Ground but had its name changed to the City Ground in 1898 to reflect the new city status of Nottingham shorty after Forest were evicted and moved out of the city to West Bridgford where they built a new ground, they chose to call it the City Ground(possibly because they had stationary that gave the ground name as the City Ground). 13thstar (talk) 17:44, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

Crystal Palace

There seems to be a concerted effort to include Crystal Palace as a rival of Nottingham Forest in this page.

In my personal opinion there is no reason or basis for this, but more importantly there have not been any reliable sources included to support the existence of this rivalry. At most it appears to be a fringe theory. StBloodaxe (talk) 22:48, 19 August 2025 (UTC)

Claimed 1886 donation of red shirts to Arsenal

A footnote in History of Arsenal F.C. (1886–1966), says "Contrary to popular belief, Beardsley and Nottingham Forest did not provide the original red shirts worn by the players. Beardsley suggested that they play in the same colours as Forest, the shirts were purchased locally" (and cites a history of Arsenal). I think the sentence about donating shirts should be amended to say Arsenal followed Forest's example in adopting red shirts. At the time, Arsenal (then Dial Square) were based in southeast London, so maybe also drop the mention of north London? Paul W (talk) 09:11, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
