COI edit request: Fixing broken link in infobox
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. Set |answered=no to reactivate the request if necessary. |
Hello! I'm an employee of CuspAI (a company co-founded by Max Welling) looking to make improvements to this article. To start, I'd like help fixing the broken link to Max Welling's faculty profile in the infobox.
Currently, the Website field points to this broken URL from the University of Amsterdam: https://staff.fnwi.uva.nl/m.welling/
Would an editor without a conflict of interest be willing to update this link to the correct faculty profile at the University of Amsterdam? This is the link: https://amlab.science.uva.nl/people/MaxWelling/
Thank you, and please let me know if you have any feedback or questions about this request! K at CuspAI (talk) 13:50, 17 July 2026 (UTC)

Adding secondary sourcing for career details
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. Adequate sources already exist, adding more would be refbombing. Note: the page had major peacock and unsourced awards which has been trimmed. |
Hello! I'm an employee of CuspAI, a company co-founded by Max Welling, looking to make improvements to this article. For this request, I'd like to improve sourcing for a few of the sentences about Dr. Welling's career in the first paragraph; currently, these are supported only by primary sources.
Here is the draft:
Proposed first paragraph draft |

|
Max Welling (born 1968) is a Dutch computer scientist in machine learning at the University of Amsterdam.[1] In August 2017, the university spin-off Scyfer BV, co-founded by Welling, was acquired by Qualcomm.[2][3] He has since then served as a Vice President of Technology at Qualcomm Netherlands.[4] He is also a Distinguished Scientist at Microsoft Research AI4Science, based in Amsterdam.[5][6] References

And here is a side-by-side comparison, so that editors can easily review the additions I'm suggesting:

If anyone has feedback on these suggestions, please leave me a note below and I'll do my best to address your concerns. Thank you! K at CuspAI (talk) 09:09, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello User:Ldm1954! Thank you for taking a look at this request. I'm new to Wikipedia editing, and based on my understanding of Wikipedia's sourcing guidelines, I thought replacing some of the primary sources in this article with secondary sources would help improve the article — I did not intend to overload it with references.
- Are there any changes I could make to this request to address your concerns? For instance, I could remove 2 of the citations that support information already supported by another source. I'd like to improve the article so it does not rely so heavily on primary sources.
- I also noticed you removed several of the awards Max Welling has received from the article. Would you be amenable to adding these back in if I provide reliable secondary sourcing?
- Thank you for your time! K at CuspAI (talk) 16:58, 12 August 2026 (UTC)

Hello! I'm an employee of CuspAI, a company co-founded by Max Welling, back on this Talk page to propose a new Career and research section for the article. The current article is a stub without a separate section describing Max Welling's career, so I've drafted up a short new section that re-organizes some existing information from the article and adds in several more well-sourced details about his career and research.
Here is a draft of a pared down introduction and Career and research section for editors' consideration:

Max Welling (born 1968) is a Dutch computer scientist in machine learning at the University of Amsterdam.[1] Welling received his PhD in physics with a thesis on quantum gravity under the supervision of Gerard 't Hooft (1998)[2] at Utrecht University. He has published on machine learning, computer vision, statistics and physics,[3] and worked on variational autoencoders (VAEs) together with Durk Kingma. In 2010 he shared with two authors a Koenderink Prize.[4] In 2025, Welling was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.[5] Career and research
In 2013, Welling co-founded Scyfer BV, a spin-off of the University of Amsterdam.[6] In August 2017, Scyfer was acquired by Qualcomm.[6] Welling has since then served as a Vice President of Technology at Qualcomm Netherlands.[7] While at Qualcomm, Welling helped develop gauge-equivariant convolutional neural networks, a theoretical framework for creating neural networks that can learn patterns on spherical and curved objects rather than only on 2D arrays of pixels.[8] Welling was a Distinguished Scientist at Microsoft Research AI4Science, based in Amsterdam.[9] As part of his work at Microsoft, Welling helped develop Aurora, an AI model that forecasts weather events using less computational power than comparable models.[10] In 2024, Welling co-founded CuspAI, a startup company that builds AI models to identify chemicals and materials that help address climate change and improve sustainability for processes such as semiconductor manufacturing.[11][12] Welling serves as CTO of CuspAI.[11] References
