- Thank you for taking the time to investigate the camera's name issue. Mars Observer Camera was its original name because it was made for the Mars Observer spacecraft, but when the spacecraft was lost a second camera of the same specifications was renamed to Mars Orbiter Camera and was put on another spacecraft.
