Hi there! I'm curious if this species have been renamed. I'm not finding it listed on Catalogue of Life or GBIF. I'm also unable to find sources with the species through Google Scholar. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:05, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

I've added the original description, linked to the BHL. I can't find any current checklist or database using this species as accepted or synonym. The Alamy source was using this reference, so I think it can be removed. Perhaps it belongs in the Se also section.  —  Jts1882 | talk  13:43, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

I failed to find anything on Machilis nipponica when I wrote the comment above, but after a bit more digging it may be a synonym of Pedetontus nipponicus (NCBI) or Verhoeffilis nipponicus (IRMNG). IRMNG is inconsistent as it recognises the species Verhoeffilis nipponicus but not the genus Verhoeffilis, which it has as a synonym of Pedetontus, but doesn't list the species in Pedetontus. I found a 2013 paper which lists it under subgenus Verhoeffilis in Pedetontus (Table 2 in Kaplin, 2013). I haven't found it listed elsewhere (CoL, etc), but I'll see what else I can find later.  —  Jts1882 | talk  11:21, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
