Automation of reference access dates
[edit]Now that the stats in many of the tables in this article have been automated (i.e. they're based on {{F1stat}}), what do people think of the idea of automating the corresponding reference access dates, so that we (I) don't have to manually update them after every race? I get that in theory before updating the reference access dates, the contents of the tables should be checked against the reference, but as things currently stand, as soon as {{F1stat}} is updated, the reference access dates for many tables are immediately wrong; I think having a template for the access dates, which I would update at about the same time {{F1stat}} is updated would be an improvement. I would propose to use the same template in List of Formula One constructor records for the same reason. Note that I would propose not templating the access dates for those records which get updated manually, e.g. "Longest time between first and last starts", "Most laps driven in career", etc. Thoughts? - I'd be alright with it TBH. I think one of the reasons we didn't was because of the page being close to the template limit, but since then there's been a lot of (irrelevant) records removed that should leave space for access dates to be automated. As long as we watch for the template limit it should be OK. QWisps (talk) 03:31, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Since there have been no objections: My proposal is to create a new template called {{F1 stats date}}, which I'll update some hours after every race, i.e. after the stats sites (primarily StatsF1) have updated their numbers. I'm open to other suggestions for the template name, e.g. perhaps {{F1 records date}}, since the template's only current planned use is in List of Formula One driver records and List of Formula One constructor records? - I think F1 records date is more appropriate, since we are only using it in records pages! It will definitely save us the effort as the season progresses, though we'll have to make sure we replace it when the stats template changes at the end of every season. - Thanks for the feedback. I've created {{F1 records date}} and applied it to the fully-automated tables in List of Formula One driver records and List of Formula One constructor records. Feel free to improve the template documentation. DH85868993 (talk) 11:44, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

Races entered and started? Make that seasons
[edit]There are many more F1 races in year today then there were in earlier decades, when drivers also ran in other series, what seldom happens nowadays. So better list seasons instead. Same applies for other inflated numbers. Use percentage instead. ~2025-40839-52 (talk) 03:06, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
Hamilton Spanish GP
[edit]Hamilton is shown as won 6 races at the Spanish Grand prix, it does not include 2026 ~2026-34822-35 (talk) 18:19, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, yes, I see what you mean. The reason it is still listed as 6 is that Hamilton’s 2026 win was at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, not the Spanish Grand Prix. Since the Spanish GP is a separate race this year and has not been held yet, the total should stay at 6 for now. ΘΘεοχάρης (talk) 18:28, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
Post-expand include size near limit
[edit]While previewing the article, I noticed that it is close to the post-expand include size limit.
| Parser profiling metric | Current value | Limit | Usage | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Post-expand include size | 1,979,492 bytes | 2,097,152 bytes | about 94.4% | Near limit |
| Template argument size | 428,754 bytes | 2,097,152 bytes | about 20.4% | OK |
| Preprocessor visited node count | 271,702 | 1,000,000 | about 27.2% | OK |
| Highest expansion depth | 17 | 100 | 17% | OK |
| Expensive parser function count | 14 | 500 | 2.8% | OK |
| Lua memory usage | 9,923,488 bytes | 52,428,800 bytes | about 18.9% | OK |
The article is not currently over the limit, but the post-expand include size is already close to it, with roughly 117,660 bytes remaining. Future additions of templates, citation templates, navboxes, or other transcluded content may push the page over the limit. If the article continues to grow, it may be worth reviewing templates, citation templates, and navboxes to reduce the post-expand include size. ΘΘεοχάρης (talk) 08:54, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
- Just a small note for anyone checking this: the PEIS value for the whole article or for an individual section can be checked by editing the page or section, clicking Show preview, and expanding the Parser profiling data panel below the edit area. For comparison, replacing one {{F1 records date}} call appears to save only about 12 PEIS bytes, so that template seems to be very lightweight and not really a PEIS concern. The larger savings appear to come from replacing much heavier citation templates such as {{cite web}} with visually equivalent manual citations. ΘΘεοχάρης (talk) 13:09, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Antonelli/2026
[edit]I notice that Antonelli/2026 rows have been added to the "Highest percentage of wins in a season", "Highest percentage of fastest laps in a season", "Highest percentage of podium finishes in a season", "Highest average points per championship" and "Highest percentage of maximum points in a season" tables. My recollection is that we usually don't add rows to these tables based on the number of races held so far, because it's incongruous with the other rows of the table, where the percentage value is calculated over the whole season, e.g. if we added such rows after the first race of the season, whichever driver won the first race would have a win percentage of 100%. DH85868993 (talk) 13:31, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, after the next Grand Prix in Austria, more than one third of the season will have been completed, so we will no longer be clearly at the very beginning of the season. In my view, keeping these Antonelli/2026 entries updated should be fairly simple, since the percentages are calculated automatically and the update would mainly involve removing or showing the relevant comments.
- I also do not think the percentages are extremely volatile at this point, as there will already be a reasonable number of races and Antonelli’s percentages are currently quite strong. If there are editors willing to keep these entries updated regularly after each Grand Prix, I think we can leave them for now and see how the situation develops. If they are not kept up to date, then we can remove them and add them again later in the season, when the season is closer to completion. ΘΘεοχάρης (talk) 17:57, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
