Newly added "controversy" section

Idell is insisting that this article include a "Controversy" section that consists of one sentence about an incident that has just occurred. The sentence focuses on an event about one professor, has no historical or other context, and presents no discussion of larger institutional ramifications. Without more information - information that might not be available or possible with a recent, singular event - this appears to be undue weight; it's certainly not something that an editor should begin an edit war to shove into this article without opening a discussion. ElKevbo, said controversy has made it to my ears and to the editor who started the ‘Controversy’ section’s ears; it has also made it to a reputable news magazine. It’s only fair for it to be mentioned here and it does not put undue weight. You seem to be trying to push your point of view and I sense a conflict of interest. Please be advised that making one revert, in good faith and assuming good faith, is not edit warring. We don't include in an article everything that has been published once. What exactly are readers supposed to learn about this college from this recent event involving one person? How does this fit into the larger context of the institution and this article that is supposed to cover the entire history, organization, funding, and resources of this institution that is nearly 70 years old?

Football

I know the article is about the public community college in the United States, but do we need to specify "American football" or "gridiron football" once instead of just referring to the word "football" throughout the article? Not everybody in the world knows the word "football" simply refers to this kind of American game or this kind of Canadian game that is totally different from association football, or soccer, if the word is chiefly used in the U.S. or Canada. However, "American football" is already linked once, but merely displayed in the text as "football", in the article. ~2025-33408-48 (talk) 22:38, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

I'm not sure that readers would think that "football" in an article about a college in the United States would refer to Canadian football or soccer... ElKevbo (talk) 03:44, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

Here is the source code of the first sentence in the second paragraph under the "History" section of the article:

On November 13, 2025, [[American football|football]] coach and faculty [[Athletic director|athletics director]] [[John Beam]] was shot on the campus of Laney College.

There is already the link to "American football" in the article anyway, thus other occurrences of the same link as being unnecessary as the heading as "Gridiron football". I hope that readers would find out what "American football" is when they go to the link.
