British?
[edit]Aren't England within the United Kingdom? Thus, does that make Kate Winslet British? Like, yes, she describes herself as English, but aren't all UK ppl considered English? Lililolol (talk) 05:07, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- No. Most of these changes from British to English were made when Scottish nationalism looked like it might stand some chance of coming to pass, as part of a concerted effort to replace the ‘British’ tag with the identities of the UK’s constituent nations. Where the ‘English’ tag reflects the balance of RS and is cited as someone’s self-description, it’s legitimate, but otherwise ‘British‘ should be the default tag as reflecting the nationality and citizenship of the individual and the usual way that UK folk are described in the English-speaking media around the world. MapReader (talk) 08:27, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- How could all UK people be English if some of them are Welsh, Irish and Scottish? England is only one of the four constitutent countries of the UK. All English people are also British, but not all British people are English. People who actually are English carry a UK (British) passport but can choose whether to self-identify primarily as English or as British. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries]
- This may be a useful read for you, Lililolol, Wikipedia:Nationality of people from the United Kingdom. Some English, Scottish and Welsh actors (and sports people and others) are more well known and identified with their specific Home Nation/ethnicity.Halbared (talk) 08:39, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
Casting "Corset Kate" in Titanic
[edit]Currently reads
Cameron was initially reluctant to cast her, preferring the likes of Claire Danes and Gwyneth Paltrow, but she pleaded with him, "You don't understand! I am Rose! I don't know why you're even seeing anyone else!" Her persistence led him to give her the part.
In a recent feature with Vanity Fair, Cameron sets the record straight - he was reluctant to cast Winslet because she was at the time known as "Corset Kate" and thus choosing her for yet another period role could be perceived as lazy casting. Cameron brings up Winslet's efforts to get the part, but claims to have already made up his mind after meeting her.
