Notability

Published authors are notable on Wikipedia. The request for a third party source is stupid, do you think it's not true that she is not actually an author? If you think it should be deleted then start a RfD. We can waste a lot of peoples time and effort and at the end I'll swoop in an add some banal useless third party reference just to satisfy the guidelines. -- 71.191.36.194 15:53, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear user, please link me to the wiki section that states that "Published authors are notable on Wikipedia". I cannot find anything that states what you are implying which seems to be "All published authors are notable". 2nd suggestion for deletion

I have googled this person and have found no additional relevant articles that make her meet the notability guidelines for Wikipedia. She is an published author, and so are probably another 1,000,000 plus people on this planet. She married a billionaire, this does not make her notable. Notability 2

The cited sources do not establish notability of the article's subject as an author according to the criteria in WP:BASIC and WP:ANYBIO. – Editør (talk) 10:26, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Justine Musk is an author (Career section) and the wife of Elon Musk (Personal life section). The notability of her authorship is not established by cited sources. The notability of her marriage comes only from her husband and should therefore be discussed in Elon Musk#Family as it already is. – Editør (talk) 11:01, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Surname

Per the sources in the article, the subject has been using the last name Musk since being married to Elon. As such, per WP:SURNAME, the name we should be referring to her as is "Musk", and using her first name only when needed to distinguish from Elon. Elon should not, in this article, ever be referred to by just his last name, as that is the name that we are using for the subject. I've just done a round of removing all referring to her simply as "Wilson" from the article, and tried to align it with both MOS:SURNAME and MOS:SAMESURNAME. The article has not always been this way; an IP editor made the change in 2022 and it has largely been allowed to remain in this problematic form since. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 16:35, 31 March 2026 (UTC)

Sexism in entry

It seems sexist to refer to an adult by a surname that they acquired by marriage as an adult, particularly when that surname is so famously associated with a different person that the other is often identified by the one surname. ~2026-37145-90 (talk) 19:43, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

What's being applied here is the Wikipedia standard WP:SURNAME. "Musk" is the surname she has continued to use since the marriage, including professionally. To strip her of it in the article about her because her ex-husband is more famous would seem a dubious and arguably sexist exercise. (If you think it sexist that a woman is generally expected to take on the surname of her husband, I certainly wouldn't be the one to disagree with you, but it's a societal matter we're not going to change on the talk page of this Wikipedia article.) -- Nat Gertler (talk) 20:02, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
