"Doc" Stacher played a crucial role in helping establish and maintain the early Mafia role in Las Vegas gambling. As the "right-hand" man of Meyer Lansky, actually the "Bagman"; Stacher was responsible for the care and conveyance of the untold vast sums of money that was skimmed from the Sands and Fremont casinos. This brief biography really doesn't award him the consideration that is merited given his crucial and close association with Meyer Lansky and the rest of the "Jewish-Italian" cartel which has come to be better known as "La Cosa Nostra."T.E. I have eliminated a few unsourced claims, such as Stacher's supposed secret stake in Columbia Pictures. Zwillman probably had one, but I could not find any support for Stacher, other than the usual merry-go-round in which one site repeats verbatim the claims of another.

Some articles claim breezily that Stacher ran the skim in Las Vegas or was the paymaster for bribes on behalf of all the mob-run casinos. That appears to be overstated or at least unsourced--he may have only handled the Sands' and the Fremont's affairs.

I have also modified the discussion of Stacher's immigration status. As I read the District Court's decision it found that Stacher was not deportable, at that time at least, for technical reasons that had nothing to do with the Cold War and his native land, the USSR (or is it Poland? or the Ukraine, which was only an SSR at the time? or Belarus?). If I have missed something I welcome the correction.

The same applies of course to the new material I have added. I have hedged the article's claims when it comes to matters such as whether Stacher helped organize the 1946 Havana Conference or merely attended it. I could not find any support for the claim that Stacher ran any casinos in the Bahamas or the DR or elsewhere in the Caribbean, but we may need to add some if I'm mistaken.
