Article clean up comments

@Owilli2019: - Responding to the note on my user page. I did some syntax and content clean up. I removed the spaces before the refs; fixed the title cases again (they need to be sentence case, not title case); toned down the florid language and changed multiple familiar references from "Joe" to "Conforte", per site convention. I'd like to still point out that very little of the article is sourced to available online sources, such as the ones I identified above. It's not absolutely required, since offline sources are frequently used, but in this case I provided several online sources that you can use. I think you'll have a better chance of it getting approved if you add info from them as well. I also found an interesting paper with some info about Conforte, but its sources all appear to be offline as well. TimTempleton ^{(talk) (cont)} 23:18, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you, thank you, thank you for re-reviewing my work and for the clean up! I know that's hard to do. I'm a little confused about the difference between title case and sentence case. Regarding your suggested reference sources, I looked at each and they merely rehash what was printed before. Citing news from 1966 is better in my mind than the rehashed version in 1996, or 2006. The CNBC video is a good one. IRS agent Kemp Shiffer is in it, I believe. I'm not sure how to introduce that video into the article. Most references I use can be found on Newspapers.com or other news sites but they are accessed with fee so I don't know if linking to them is good. I will re-review your suggested sources and will try to apply one or more because I appreciate what you're saying. If you or anyone wants me to produce the facts I have I can do that. Just ask! But please don't reject this article because we're haggling over this or that source. Aside from additional online reference sources, which I will do, what else do I need to do at this juncture?Owilli2019 (talk) 23:34, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

You requested a citation for this: The grand opening of Joe and Sally Conforte's Mustang Ranch brothel on May 15, 1976, was overlooked by the news media.

There's two parts here: 1) May 15, 1976. This is referenced by numerous other articles. 2) overlooked by news media. There is no article I'm aware of that says something like, Mustang Ranch Now Open! Regarding Conforte's death, I believe a news article will be written later this month that will nail it down and which I can source. February 26, 2021 is the 50th anniversary of Nevada's county option brothel law which legalized brothels. That event is being covered by Reno Gazette-Journal reporter Steve Timko. Steve is doing his homework and if anybody can prove Conforte is dead, he can. I hope! Until then, I don't know what to do about Conforte's death.Owilli2019 (talk) 00:08, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

@Owilli2019: Title case is "Written Like This", while sentence case is "Written like this." You only capitalize the first word of a section title unless it's a proper noun. See MOS:HEAD. If I'm writing an article and had to choose between an online source versus one that's not online, I always use the online source, as a courtesy to other readers. It also helps your chances of getting the article approved. The point of this exercise is to demonstrate that Conforte was notable enough to get a wide variety of coverage, even after his death. Citing an offline source doesn't do this as well. Trust me. And you can reference the opening date, but it's very hard to prove that nobody covered it at the time. How do you know that's true? Did you look at every publication from that day or week? If not, that's known as WP:OR. Your best bet is to try to find something that says the ranch opened to little fanfare. You can indent your replies to my comments with a (:) colon in front to make it easier to follow. Always add one more colon than the person before you to further indent the info. In my latest revision I did not rewrite the sentence about the opening of Mustang Ranch being 'overlooked' by news media. I have scoured the Internet and local newspaper archives many times and have found nothing in the days leading up to the grand opening. Articles refer to it after the fact, mostly in regards to the murder of Oscar Bonavena which occurred a week after the grand opening. Yesterday, I searched again using NewspaperArchive.com which searches the whole nation and got nothing. If anyone can prove otherwise, please let me know and I will gladly alter my text accordingly. I added one sentence to introduce the "American Greed" video with hyperlink. I added also added hyperlinks to the book "The Girls of Nevada" which is available for free online, and to IMDB for the documentary movie. I added a interwiki chapter link to Claiborne's Allegations of impropriety. I added one new reference with link to familysearch.org and a record of Conforte's arrival on the Rex in 1937.Owilli2019 (talk) 19:48, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

@Owilli2019: FYI - if the sources are added to the body of the article, they need to be entered as citations, not inline external links. See Wikipedia:External links#Important points to remember. @Timtempleton: I created footnotes the The Girls of Nevada book and the documentary. I added a footnote to Bonavena's death because it's archived online. I added the American Greed video link to See Also and moved Conforte's genealogy link into that section. I moved the Brothel Association link to Externals. Seems more appropriate this way. Regarding the opening of Mustang Ranch, I added a footnote to the article of Bonavena's death. Paragraph 8 says: "Bonavena's death, in the parking lot, came just a week after Conforte had opened the new brothel complex." Should that be a part of the article? Is it necessary? The other part of the grand opening was that the reporters overlooked it. That was intentional. However, it's hard to prove a negative and that phrase could easily be removed from the sentence. I'd like to keep it. What do you think?Owilli2019 (talk) 16:27, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Fantastic! I corrected that the IRS trustee was denied a license, not Sally. I forgot to sign in, but that was my edit. You request a citation to Conforte's quote, that is from Footnote 51 that covers several facts in that paragraph. Possibly the citation should be moved to the end of the paragraph? You added a sentence about the Wild Horse Saloon that is inaccurate. I will give it a stab or punt it to Lance Gilman who now owns Mustang Ranch.
