– This article is about huli jing (Chinese for 'fox spirit'), the general category of fox spirits in East Asian mythology. The current article fox spirit is more about the nine-tailed fox specifically. In addition, the corresponding articles to fox spirit in other languages are most definitely about the nine-tailed fox, not fox spirits in general. Fox spirit → Huli jing – I believe that an error was made in the previous move. Moving the article from "Huli jing" to "fox spirit" changed the scope unnecessarily, as it is purely about the Chinese fox spirit. As for Nine-tailed fox, which is a sort of broad concept article, I don't believe it's needed because of how sparse it is on content. Along with fox spirit, it should probably point at Fox#In popular culture (which should probably be renamed "in culture") because it can refer to the huli jing, hồ ly tinh, kitsune or kumiho, all of which have their own articles. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 21:44, 9 November 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. --pro-anti-air ––>(talk)<–– 00:58, 17 November 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. – LuniZunie ツ(talk) 14:31, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- My (non-expert) understanding is that "fox spirit" is a hypernym for "huli jing", "hồ ly tinh", "kitsune", and "kumiho"; "nine-tailed fox" is a specific variant of such fox spirits, often considered to have greater magical power than those with fewer tails. So, if my understanding is correct, "huli jing" shouldn't be treated as a synonym for "fox spirit", as the former is (specifically) the Chinese version of the latter; that is to say, the two terms should have separate articles. - Oppose. Yes, there is much work to be done, but no case has been made that this move will help rather than hinder. Fox spirit appears to be a good topic. If Huli jig refers to the same thing when used in English, then we would need to consider which was the more common name, but they appear to be distinct but perhaps overlapping topics. So just to repeat, no case has been made for the proposed move. Andrewa (talk) 09:52, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- Support or Fox spirit (Chinese mythology) this is about the Chinese version of the fox spirit, not the American Indigenous one, not the Inuit one. Instead create a new broad concept article at the current name. No good is done by usurping the topic of this article to create a different braod concept article. That would just result in a WP:COATRACK hanging very little non-Chinese content on a Chinese core and calling it President Dunsel. -- ~2025-32349-50 (talk) 08:32, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- WP:COATRACK is an essay which does not appear relevant here. And you can't have it both ways... either there is significant material (sourced of course) about non-Chinese fox spirits or there isn't. Either way, this move doesn't help. Andrewa (talk) 18:52, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

Fox spirit → Fox spirit (Chinese mythology) – Kitsune, kumiho and hồ ly tinh are also fox spirits, so the name is overly vague. In the last RM, people believed WP:USEENGLISH applied, so this should be a more acceptable move. I would also be fine with Fox spirits in Chinese mythology. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 09:52, 27 May 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 00:09, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- Comment So what is proposed for the base name? A disambiguation page or set index listing the other meanings? Mdewman6 (talk) 09:38, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- A primary redirect to Foxes in popular culture#East Asia would give a better explanation than a mere DAB page would. Although that information may need to be split off into a page like Foxes in folklore and mythology, as I do not think it really aligns with pop culture. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 14:05, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- Rename back to Huli jing and create dabpage at basename. No need for an unnecessary disambiguator when we have a perfectly good name to use. The last RM was closed as no consensus and the previous RM was inaccurate as it resulted in the current generic title. Both were poorly attended. Hardly overwhelming support for WP:USEENGLISH and a move back to the native name would also be consistent with the titles of articles on fox spirits in other cultures. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:26, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
- Support Necrothesp and Zxcvbnm proposals. Both are valid outcomes. Strictly speaking, for the basename, it is not a dab page, but a set index. But we already have that briefly stated in Foxes in popular culture#East Asia. I can see a separate article about the commonalities and differences between the fox spirits in the region, but that's a future problem. For Huli jing, I don't see the issue with the proposed title as a descriptive one when the other fox spirts' articles are in their native romanised names. – robertsky (talk) 13:26, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- Rename to Huli jing, make Fox Spirit a DAB page per above comments. Felinaex (purr / pawprints) 22:11, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
