Not Toyama, Either (Superfluous Information)

This is supposed to be an article about Hiroshima. Therefore, while it's fine to say, "The bombing of Tokyo and other cities in Japan during World War II caused widespread destruction and hundreds of thousands of deaths.[13]," is it really necessary to provide the following: "For example, Toyama, an urban area of 128,000, was almost completely destroyed, and incendiary attacks on Tokyo claimed the lives of more than 100,000 people."

What does this have to do with Hiroshima? Toyama? Toyama AND Tokyo? The first sentence more than makes the point. I think it would be good to leave such superfluous "examples" out of a discussion of "Hiroshima" (especially when "The bombing of Tokyo" hardly needs "incendiary attacks on Tokyo" as its own example!") I would add: any article about the bombing of Hiroshima should include the aggression and atrocities committed by Japan's government and military leading up to the war. We lived in Asia 50 years ago, and the memory of Japan's atrocities, including the deaths of many innocent people held in their 'camps', is still fresh on people's minds. The only reason Hiroshima was bombed was to prevent more such atrocities. If the leaders had been willing to sit down and talk peace, they could have saved their own people from such harm. Keep introduction clean

It's a city after all. What ever tragedy happened in the past should not be mentioned in the introduction. This is not how something or someone wants to be remembered. It's like putting the most recent gossip in an article about some celebrity. --2.245.107.125 (talk) 00:41, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Climate section reads impossible temperatures

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highest_temperature_recorded_on_Earth lists the highest temperature recorded as 56.7 °C (134.1 °F) and the climate table here shows record temperatures of 171F as records in Hiroshima from 1981 onwards. Timezone Specification Confirmation

The Timezone associated with Japan is 'Japan Standard Time (UTC+9)'. I assume that when the article mentions the atomic bombing at 8:15 a.m., that this is 'Japan Standard Time (UTC+9)'. I assume that this is correct, given the below site:

Which states "On this day in 1945, at 8:16 a.m. Japanese time, an American B-29 bomber, the Enola Gay, drops the world’s first atom bomb, over the city of Hiroshima."

Semi-protected edit request on 2 November 2024

Remove the following from the Media section: "The Maxwell Rayner TV Co. filmed a documentary released in 2012. The documentary contained general information about the city." The reason for the removal is that the documentary doesn't seem to exist as through extensive research I haven't found anything on the documentary or the production company behind it.
