Quick failing on length. Though GA has no length requirement, I do believe that this article is simply too short and fails criteria 3a with only 358 words of prose. The § career section consists almost entirely of her entering a tournament and who her final competitor(s) were, and the lack of other sections outside of this leaves a lot to be desired. The only except to this (and borderline at that) is the paragraph on the WPA Women's World Nine-ball Championship. Definitely because she is Chinese I know local media on her will be limited and difficult to access, but the article in its current state simply lacks too much, such as perhaps elaborating on her education and training if there are sources for it at all. ツ LunaEatsTuna (💬)— 03:04, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi again. Regarding refs

• 1&2 look the same
• 22, 23 and 26 are dateless
• 24, 25, 27 and 28 are missing a website name=
• 22 and 23 also have the website name merged in with the title
• Noting historic fail, primarily on broadness. Page word count has risen from 358 to 649 in that time and I'll look at the other concerns (list as prose) too.

Thanks. To be honest, I think the issues flagged by the earlier reviewer I(LunaEatsTuna) in 2023 still remain. Although the article has been improved, the early life section is one sentence, the prose is still she played in the final of......and beat......... etc, and there is no personal life section. In the infobox it says she reached number one in the world but this is not discussed in the article. When did she achieve this? For a sustained period? Once, several times? I know from my own editing of sports BLP's that they can be results heavy but it's good to break it up, add context, more in depth detail of career defining results, notable comebacks etc. The article also jumps from 2019 to 2023 with nothing in between and there is a bit of a gap between 2016 and 2018 also.

I have some smaller suggestions too like there are two overlinks in the article - All Japan Championship and Liu Shasha. Her 2024 win in the Kamui mixed doubles is not included in title and achievements. Her win in the 2014 China Open has no score or opponent detail but in the next sentence her semi-final exit in a redlisted event is described in greater detail. Her 2016 China Open win looks like it needs a reference. I think her 2023 defeat in the World ten-ball final could be included also (rappler).

I know from editing pool articles that finding in depth coverage of players is a lot trickier than for say snooker players, and I don't think there is a huge amount of info to extract from sources already in the article. Let me know your thoughts. Canary757 (talk) 07:15, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

I can't invent sourcing. If sources don't mention things about their personal life, which they don't seem to, I can't add such a section. We generally only cover such things if they are particularly notable anyway.

The WPA rankings are... a mess. is about all we have. I could probably find a source that says she was ranked number one, but that's about it. The rankings are a much less set in stone (and there's lots of competing ones for different tours). I'm happy to add something to say she was world number one, which is indeed helpful, but defining when and for how long is a lot more tricky.

We might not (yet) have an article for the Amway Cup, but it's a massive event.

I suspect that the gap between 2019 and 2023 is (as you might have guessed) COVID related, as China had a very lengthy quarantine. AZBilliards doesn't list her as playing a single event in between these dates, but without a source saying she was not playing due to COVID, I can't imply. There was a couple things (like the later stages of the 9-ball world title) that she did in 2017, so I can add that.

With pool, there's usually only a handful of news articles even for the whole of large events, so covering individual matches is quite unlikely. I'll make the changes above and have another sweep for colour in references. Lee Vilenski ^{(talk • contribs)} 08:21, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi, I realise that pool is poorly covered by the media. In my opinion, this article does need more colour to get through GA. This article on azbilliards covering the 2016 China Open describes Yu as the world number three coming from 5‍–‍8 behind to defeat the world number one. I would recommend looking for other match reports of her most notable victories/defeats and seeing how much descriptive expansion could take place within a reasonable scope. With regards to her being world number one, I accept that this isn't easy but it does feel like an important milestone in her career. This reference from pro 9 at least states that she was the number one when she played SVB so at least we can say she was number one at that moment. Bare URL alert at ref~22.

Yeah, that's fair. I've added the piece that you mentioned, and I really have done a search for dates of her #1 status, and she definitely became number one first in 2013, following her nine-ball world title, however, the sources just say that she "now sits atop the pool world", which isn't descriptive enough. So I've added a bit more. Found a really nice source (in Chinese) about her dad, and it's got some nice bits that I've added. It also corroborates her being world number one first in 2014, which I've also added.

Hi, Good work with expanding the article, way more detail now, particularly on her early life and I am happy with the article depth now. At 999 words, the article has changed considerably since it first went through a GA review. A few other points.

No drama. I'll get right on that. As it happens, with some really deep searching I found a source that talks about her getting married and being a mum (it was a bit confusing, because quite a few Chinese articles talk about her being a mum, then showing a picture of her with a dog).

On the subject of images, the other article I'm involved in with this GARC (Talk:Katy Marchant/GA1) has hit an impasse over the image copyright status of one photo.
