Earlier Patent for this item
[edit]This type of tool has an earlier U.S. Patent, granted in 1935, and was called a "Can or Jar Opener": U.S. Patent number 2000962. It is mysterious why the later version was even granted a patent (in 1954, according to the page). The functional design is almost identical. The '35 version actually has more 'functions'. The earlier patent makes no mention of "Gilhoolie", either, so that term must have been applied later.
