Monthly or weekly?

List of comics

The list of comics contain several comics no longer being published in Gekkan Shōnen Gangan. For example, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories ended almost a year ago. Shouldn't these be removed from the list? (58.188.97.134 12:54, 3 January 2007 (UTC))

I really don't think it's necessary to remove comics no longer published in Gekkan Shōnen Gangan. Even though some of them are no long serialized in the magazine, they are still published in volumes under the Gangan Comics (GC) print label. As stated in the page, Gangan Comics is the print label of Square Enix, where the manga is published as released volumes in actual bookform. Gekkan Shonen Gangan is a manga magazine from Square Enix that serializes monthly works of different mangakas within it. (DarkIceEdge (talk) 09:57, 1 March 2008 (UTC))

Lead problem

The lead messes up two different terms:

• Monthly Shōnen Gangan (月刊少年ガンガン, Gekkan Shōnen Gangan), a monthly comic magazine.
• Gangan Comics (ガンガンコミックス, Gangan Komikkusu), a brand name for paperback compilations of comics published in the former. Comics from the other Gangan publications appear in compilations under other brand names, e.g. Comics Gangan Joker (コミックスガンガンJOKER) and Young Gangan Comics (ヤングガンガンコミックス, Yangu Gangan Komikkusu).

I'll try fixing the lead, but it would probably also be appropriate to rename the article. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:50, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Monthly G Fantasy is NOT Shounen.

According to a translation of the Japanese Wikipedia entry for Monthly G Fantasy, Monthly G Fantasy is not Shounen. "Audience: Junior and senior high school students men and women." "Summery: Magazine As the name suggests, works a lot of the fantasy comic is, work for women, Youth for the center in particular."

Should this just be a list?

There seems to be a contradiction between the Japanese GFantasy wikipedia page and the English Wikipedia Page?

Hey, I just wanted to comment to let people know that the Japanese wikipedia page for GFantasy magazine, the demographic is stated as unisex middle and high school students, while the english section for GFantasy on the Gangan comics page says it targets young boys (shonen). Additionally, the source used to cite this statement is a blog where the comments under the blog dispute the magazine being under the shonen editorial demographic. This seems like a conflict that should be addressed to make the Gangan comics wikipedia page as accurate as possible. AlexBW0524 (talk) 03:33, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

I completely agree! Square Enix does not have GFantasy under any labeled demographic. If you view their site Manga UP you can see they list primarily shojo and josei as the demographic for its series. We should 100% be using the publisher as the source and not a random western fan blog. MahouTofu (talk) 14:58, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

According to the Japanese Magazine Publishers Association Gfantasy isn't listed as shonen or shojo, but other Square's other magazines that do have demos are listed as such.

They have demos listed on each individual series via the Japanese Manga UP site. Here's Hanako's.

But we have sources that explicitly refer to GFantasy as a shonen magazine (see the Mechademia article for instance), so unless you have a source that explicitly states that it is not a shonen magazine, it would be WP:OR to remove that description of the magazine. While the Mechademia article does refer to it as such, the publisher's own website tagging series from the magazine with Shojo seems like it should at least also be noted within that section of the article (this link for instance tags Toilet Bound Hanako-kun as such: https://www.manga-up.com/titles/19). Although it's not an academic source, the publisher's own website seems like it is at least reliable enough to add to the article, even without removing the statement that GFantasy started as a shonen magazine. Those sources don't describe the magazine as Shōjo, so it would be WP:OR to use that as a source to call the magazine itself a Shōjo magazine. Perhaps we could mention that Square Enix lists some of the titles the magazine publishes as aimed at girls though. Link20XX (talk) 17:57, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
