Contested deletion

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because the content of the article is cited from reputable news sources such as The New York Times. Th subject of the article clearly demonstrates notoriety. If an administrator has issues with the page as written, those specific instances should be flagged or edited rather than nominating the page for deletion. As noted in WP:DINC, “If an article on a notable subject can be improved through normal editing, do not put it through a deletion discussion.” --92.237.183.144 (talk) 21:31, 12 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

This page needs a substantial update

[edit]

Enigma has closed Enigma Public and shifted their focus to small business data. I've made some updates, but more needs to be done to reflect this change.

I was only able to find a Hacker News post that reflected the shutdown of Enigma Public, but I also verified it through their website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:1C2:1380:4B30:B4C3:1E4D:6BA5:48D0 (talk) 22:34, 31 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Edit Requests for outdated article (COI Disclosure)

[edit]

Disclosure: I'm employed by Enigma Technologies. Most of my wiki contributions are over on Wikidata, but I've been frustrated that this page is basically a time capsule from 2018. The lede is about a product we shut down in 2020, and even back then another editor flagged that it needed a refresh. I previously fixed a one-character typo in the website URL without disclosing my affiliation; noting that now for transparency. I also used a LLM to refresh my memory of Wikipedia's COI and sourcing policies. The source research and writing here is my own.

I'd love it if an editor without a WP:COI would consider some of these changes. Everything below is sourced to independent publications, and I've broken it into separate items that can be evaluated independently.

  Unable to review

  • Your edit request could not be reviewed because the provided references are not formatted correctly. The citation style predominantly used by the Enigma Technologies article is Citation Style 1 (CS1). The citation style used in the edit request consists of bare URL's.[a] Any requested edit of yours which may be implemented will need to resemble the current style already in use in the article – in this case, CS1. (See WP:CITEVAR.) In the extended section below titled Citation style, I have illustrated two examples: one showing how the edit request was submitted, and another showing how requests should be submitted in the future:
  • Kindly resubmit the edit request below at your earliest convenience, taking care to ensure that it makes use of CS1. If you have any questions about this formatting please don't hesitate to ask myself or another editor. Regards,  Spintendo  13:47, 26 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

COI edit request (part 1 of 3): lede

[edit]

@Spintendo: Thanks for your review in May. I'm following up on the request above by E1presidente, a colleague at Enigma, with citations now in CS1. I'm splitting it into smaller requests; this is part 1. Disclosure: I'm paid by Enigma (see my user page). I used an AI assistant to help find sources and format citations, and I checked each claim against its source.

1. Lede

[edit]

Request: Replace the first two paragraphs of the article (from "Enigma Technologies, Inc., is a data science and AI company..." through "...including American Express, ADP, BB&T, Celgene, Merck, and PayPal.") with:

Enigma Technologies, Inc. is an American data company based in New York City.[1] The company uses entity resolution to link public and private data from thousands of sources into records about businesses.[1][2] Its data is used in automated systems, including AI agents,[3] for know-your-business (KYB) verification,[4] risk assessment and underwriting,[5] payments,[6] sanctions screening,[4] and sales and marketing.[7] In its early years, the company was best known for Enigma Public, a free online library of public data.[8]

Reason: The current lede leads with Enigma Public, which was deactivated in March 2020 (cited in the article body), and lists customers from a 2015 source (BB&T has since merged into Truist; Celgene was acquired in 2019). The proposed text reflects independent coverage from 2019 to 2026 and removes two press-release citations and a self-published "About us" citation. The payments item cites Enigma's own site for a basic product description; I couldn't find independent coverage and am fine with it being removed if you prefer.

2. Infobox founding year

[edit]
  • Current: founded = 2012; 14 years ago
  • Proposed: founded = 2011; 15 years ago
  • Reason: Independent sources give 2011,[1][9] and the article's categories already say 2011.

COI edit request (part 2 of 3): history since 2018

[edit]

This is part 2 of 3, following part 1 above. Disclosure: I'm paid by Enigma (see my user page). I used an AI assistant to help find sources and format citations, and I checked each claim against its source.

1. Remove outdated sentence

[edit]

In the History section, please remove: "The company currently has more than 100 employees and is headquartered in NYC's Silicon Alley."

Reason: The employee count is out of date, and its only citation is Enigma's own "About us" page, which part 1 proposes removing from the lede (where that reference is defined).

2. Add history since 2018

[edit]

Please add the following at the end of the History section, after the paragraph beginning "In September 2018, Enigma announced $95 million in new funds...":

In January 2022, Enigma spun off Prime, a small-business lending platform that raised $49 million from Customers Bancorp, Capital One, Third Point Ventures and New Enterprise Associates.[1][2] At the time, Enigma's customers included American Express, Truist Financial and Capital One.[1]
In March 2023, Enigma partnered with Noble, a credit underwriting and decisioning platform, to supply small-business financial data, including revenue and revenue growth, for lenders' risk assessment and underwriting.[3]
In October 2023, the company launched a know-your-business (KYB) verification product that checks business registration filings and sanctions watchlists.[4]
In July 2026, Enigma and the identity-verification company Proof launched Business Certificates, credentials that link a verified business identity to the people and AI agents authorized to act on its behalf. Enigma supplies data on more than 100 million U.S. legal entities for the program.[5][6]

Reason: The History section currently ends in 2018. These additions are sourced to independent coverage.

  1. ↑ The use of bare URLs as references is a style which is acceptable for use in Wikipedia. However, general practice dictates that the style already in use for an article be the one that is subsequently used for all future additions unless changed by editorial consensus.[1]
