Redirect to List of emojis?

[edit]

Should Emojis redirect to List of emojis instead of Emoji? Connoisseurship (talk) 13:11, 18 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

No. I would treat this like most other plurals and redirect it to the singular. The fact that emoji and emojis can both be plural makes an even stronger case that these should take readers to the same place. Also, readers usually expect to find a full article when they search for something on Wikipedia. In general when there is an article and a list that could both make sense, I prefer to redirect to the article, but of course there are exceptions. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫(talk) 17:45, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

the first emoji?

[edit]

This article from Ars Technica notes that "the original IBM PC included a dedicated smiley character as early as 1981 (perhaps that should be considered the first emoji)".

The news story also contains an image of IBM’s Code Page 437 character set, which includes the smiley face character. I think this should be noted on the Wikipedia article. ~2025-34416-43 (talk) 04:00, 26 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation

[edit]

How many people actually pronounce it as "UH-moji" like the IPA on the page? I've only heard "eh-moji" (like the "emo" in "emotion", California) or "ih-moji" from people with the pen/pin merger (parts of TN).

I'm curious if this is a typo or if there is a region where it's pronounced "um".
