First flight is shown in article as Chingford in August 1916 but 3687 was erected at Hendon and flown on both the 28 April 1916 and 12 May 1916 by G M Dyott. Comments ? MilborneOne (talk) 16:21, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bomber

Despite the aircraft name it appears to have been ordered as a fighter (a rather large one) fitted with a big gun. Sturtivant and Page's RN serials and units lists them as Dyott Twin-engined Tractor Fighter Biplanes. 3687 had a large COW gun fitted in November 1916 for trials at Grain and I think originally was to have a Vickers 2-pdr gun. Just to add Bruce Robertsons British Military serials calls them both "Dyott Fighter"s. MilborneOne (talk) 16:35, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

The "Bomber" name seems to have started when it was listed in Peter Lewis' book "The British Bomber since 1914" published in 1967, one of the few books that mention the type. It seems never to have been fitted with bombs.
