The Ducati 748 was a Ducati sport bike made in various models from 1994 to 2002. The smaller version of the 916, the 748 was succeeded in 2003 by the 749; a higher horsepower model, the 996, was also produced.Photograph: Stefan Krause

The Ducati Desmoquattro engine began as 748 cc (45.6 cu in) displacement engine, with cylinder heads that were originally meant for a smaller bore than the 916, so the introduction of a smaller version of the 916 was to be expected.

Strada

No mention of the 748 Strada? It was a 1997 single seater model that likely existed before that year.
