Having just visited the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola I was stunned by the similarity of the Douglas Dolphin fuselage to the speedboat designs of John Hacker. In addition, John Hackers speedboat line of boats were called Hackercraft Dolphins. It looks to me that the foremost naval architect of his time had a hand in amphibious aircraft as well.
