Potential continued relevance
[edit]While the calcichordate hypothesis has been disproven, some of its elements like the clade Olfactores proved correct. Dexiothetism could still be relevant and should be connected to other theories explaining deuterostome body rotation oddities such as the axial twist theory or inversion (evolutionary biology), or in the sequence leading to the loss of the right hydrocoel in Echinoderms. While I cannot find a reference at the moment, if Gyaltsenglossus is derived from a Pterobranch-like ancestor that began facultatively crawling like an Enteropneust, dexiothetism could be relevant there as well.
Please note that the above is speculative and based on memories of several papers that I read some time ago and might be jumbling up. Clear citations are necessary before modifying the page.
