The current biographical data in the article are internally inconsistent.
According to the English entry, Deborah Sasson (née O’Brien)
– was born in 1959,
– graduated from Millis High School in 1967,
– was crowned Miss Massachusetts in 1971, and
– reportedly married violinist Michel Sasson in 1972.
These dates cannot all be correct. If she were born in 1959, she would have graduated from high school at the age of 8, been 12 during the Miss Massachusetts competition, and 13 when she married — clearly impossible.
Several independent sources instead indicate a birth year around 1948–1949:
• The Miss Massachusetts record lists Deborah O’Brien, Foxboro, age 22, as the 1971 titleholder and second runner-up at Miss America:

Michel Sasson died in 2013 at age 77, meaning he was about 36 in 1972. For his wife to have been 18 at that time, she must have been born around 1954 or earlier — and most likely in the late 1940s, consistent with the Miss Massachusetts record and her 1967 high school graduation.
It should also be noted that databases like MusicBrainz now show 1959 as her birth year only because they automatically import data from Wikipedia/Wikidata. Earlier versions of MusicBrainz (prior to this import) listed 1949 instead. Therefore, MusicBrainz cannot be treated as an independent corroborating source in this case.
Sasson continues to tour with her long-running Phantom of the Opera production, performing the teenage role of Christine Daaé — tickets for performances in the upcoming season are already available. This may partly explain why a younger public age has been repeated in media and databases.
Some editors have mentioned that a copy of her passport was once presented to the German Wikipedia allegedly showing 1959. If that document exists, it seems inconsistent with nearly all other verifiable data and might have been misread or misrecorded.
Recommendation:
Given these clear chronological contradictions and multiple independent references pointing to a late-1940s birth year, the article should either
(a) update the birth year to 1949, with supporting citations, or
(b) explicitly note that sources differ and that 1959 cannot be correct if the rest of the biography is accurate.
It would be helpful to identify the IP(s) that changed the birth year and to check whether they resolve to locations associated with Ms. Sasson or her management.
Following up on the earlier discussion regarding the inconsistencies in Deborah Sasson’s biographical data, I would like to add further observations concerning the reliability of the cited sources, additional primary evidence, and a relevant technical finding.
Source reliability issue:
The source currently cited for the birth year appears to be circular, as it derives its data from another website that itself mirrors Wikipedia. This kind of self-referential sourcing (citogenesis) cannot be regarded as independent verification.
Updated external authority records (conflicting):
• VIAF (Virtual International Authority File) currently lists “Sasson, Deborah 1949–”, aggregating data from national libraries (e.g., GND/DNB, LoC, KB). While VIAF is an authority aggregator rather than a primary source, this record supports a late-1940s birth year.
• BMLO (Bayerisches Musiker-Lexikon Online) lists “22 August 1955, Boston” for Deborah Sasson and links to numerous secondary databases. This introduces a third, conflicting year (1955), in addition to VIAF’s 1949 and Wikipedia’s 1959.
These authority or lexicon entries are not primary documentation of birth data; they compile from other databases and may reflect imported or outdated records. Because VIAF = 1949, BMLO = 1955, and Wikipedia = 1959 all differ, none can be treated as definitive.
Per WP:V and WP:BLP, the most weight should be given to independent, contemporaneous primary evidence, which consistently supports a late-1940s birth year:
• Boston Public Library / Digital Commonwealth: “Miss Massachusetts Deborah Ann O’Brien, 22-year-old, Foxboro” (around 13 Sep 1971) → implies ≈ 1949.
The IP address that changed the birth year on Wikipedia — 88.152.6.17 (Vodafone Germany) — resolves to Bensheim, Hesse (Postal Code 64625) with hostname vodafone-ip.de.
This is notable because that is the same general area where Ms. Sasson is publicly known to reside. While this does not prove authorship, the coincidence warrants a closer review of the edit’s origin and of the reliability of the supporting source.
Editorial suggestion:
Given that the primary, contemporaneous records (Miss Massachusetts 1971 at age 22; high-school graduation 1967) align with a late-1940s birth — and given that secondary authority files conflict among themselves (1949 vs 1955 vs 1959) — the article should either
(a) update to 1949 with clear sourcing and a note that some authorities disagree, or
(b) flag the birth year as disputed until a reliable secondary biography or primary civil record is found.
Given that Ms. Sasson or her management appear to monitor:::or edit this page from time to time, it would be very helpful if they could clarify why the currently stated birth year conflicts with independently verifiable biographical data — such as her documented participation in Miss Massachusetts 1971 and her 1967 high-school graduation — both of which come from independent, primary sources, not self-referential ones.
Additional observation:
On the same date (25 August 2025), the birth year was also changed in the German Wikipedia article by a temporary account (under the new IP-masking system).
While the underlying IP is not publicly visible, the edit coinciding in timing and content with the English-Wikipedia change suggests a coordinated update across language versions.
This may warrant review by administrators with CheckUser access to confirm whether the same network or editor was involved.
Further point — and this is addressed especially to the administrators defending the status quo:
Two core facts are not in dispute:
• Michel Sasson’s birth year is well-documented (1936)
• The marriage took place in 1972 — also documented in independent sources
If Wikipedia continues to insist on presenting 1959 as Deborah Sasson’s birth year, then the encyclopedia is quite literally publishing a biography that only works if readers accept that a 36-year-old man married a 13-year-old girl.
That is not “editorial nuance”.
That is not a “minor sourcing discrepancy”.
That is a chronological absurdity with obvious social and legal implications — and it collapses the moment you apply basic logic.
It is therefore indefensible that administrators are content to leave this untouched, while refusing even to mark the birth year as disputed. That is not caution. That is not responsibility. Even a grade school child can calculate that 2026 - 77 equals 1949, not 1959.
I will not continue this discussion unless valid, publicly accessible sources are provided that clarify the discrepancies and explain the inconsistency between the verifiable life events and the alleged birth year of 1959.
