Incorrect date of birth

[edit]

Should be 1948 2601:CB:427F:91B0:C117:E0B9:697:2A81 (talk) 14:35, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Do you have a source? Grimes2 (talk) 15:07, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
The current biographical data in the article are internally inconsistent.
According to the English entry, Deborah Sasson (née O’Brien)
– was born in 1959,
– graduated from Millis High School in 1967,
– was crowned Miss Massachusetts in 1971, and
– reportedly married violinist Michel Sasson in 1972.
These dates cannot all be correct. If she were born in 1959, she would have graduated from high school at the age of 8, been 12 during the Miss Massachusetts competition, and 13 when she married — clearly impossible.
Several independent sources instead indicate a birth year around 1948–1949:
• The Miss Massachusetts record lists Deborah O’Brien, Foxboro, age 22, as the 1971 titleholder and second runner-up at Miss America:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Massachusetts
• The Digital Commonwealth (Boston Public Library) archive shows 1971 photographs of Deborah Ann O’Brien as Miss Massachusetts — clearly the same person:
https://www.digitalcommonwealth.org/search/commonwealth:zs25z924q
• The Boston Globe obituary for Michel Sasson confirms their marriage and identifies his wife as “Deborah O’Brien, Miss Massachusetts”:
https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2013/04/09/michel-sasson-bso-violinist-cofounded-newton-symphony-was-music-director-boston-ballet/5QIh5hGLM7dmc9kJN0ZqEI/story.html
• Another article notes that Michel Sasson was 13 years older than his wife and that they met when she was 18 (Daniel Grosse – “Deborah und der Herr Sasson”):
http://www.danielgrosse.com/blog/deborah-und-der-herr-sasson/
Michel Sasson died in 2013 at age 77, meaning he was about 36 in 1972. For his wife to have been 18 at that time, she must have been born around 1954 or earlier — and most likely in the late 1940s, consistent with the Miss Massachusetts record and her 1967 high school graduation.
It should also be noted that databases like MusicBrainz now show 1959 as her birth year only because they automatically import data from Wikipedia/Wikidata. Earlier versions of MusicBrainz (prior to this import) listed 1949 instead. Therefore, MusicBrainz cannot be treated as an independent corroborating source in this case.
Sasson continues to tour with her long-running Phantom of the Opera production, performing the teenage role of Christine Daaé — tickets for performances in the upcoming season are already available. This may partly explain why a younger public age has been repeated in media and databases.
Some editors have mentioned that a copy of her passport was once presented to the German Wikipedia allegedly showing 1959. If that document exists, it seems inconsistent with nearly all other verifiable data and might have been misread or misrecorded.
Recommendation:
Given these clear chronological contradictions and multiple independent references pointing to a late-1940s birth year, the article should either
(a) update the birth year to 1949, with supporting citations, or
(b) explicitly note that sources differ and that 1959 cannot be correct if the rest of the biography is accurate.
It would be helpful to identify the IP(s) that changed the birth year and to check whether they resolve to locations associated with Ms. Sasson or her management.

Following up on the earlier discussion regarding the inconsistencies in Deborah Sasson’s biographical data, I would like to add further observations concerning the reliability of the cited sources, additional primary evidence, and a relevant technical finding.
Source reliability issue:
The source currently cited for the birth year appears to be circular, as it derives its data from another website that itself mirrors Wikipedia. This kind of self-referential sourcing (citogenesis) cannot be regarded as independent verification.
Updated external authority records (conflicting):
VIAF (Virtual International Authority File) currently lists “Sasson, Deborah 1949–”, aggregating data from national libraries (e.g., GND/DNB, LoC, KB). While VIAF is an authority aggregator rather than a primary source, this record supports a late-1940s birth year.
http://viaf.org/viaf/64193053
BMLO (Bayerisches Musiker-Lexikon Online) lists “22 August 1955, Boston” for Deborah Sasson and links to numerous secondary databases. This introduces a third, conflicting year (1955), in addition to VIAF’s 1949 and Wikipedia’s 1959.
https://www.bmlo.lmu.de/s2651
Takeaway on source reliability:
These authority or lexicon entries are not primary documentation of birth data; they compile from other databases and may reflect imported or outdated records. Because VIAF = 1949, BMLO = 1955, and Wikipedia = 1959 all differ, none can be treated as definitive.
Per WP:V and WP:BLP, the most weight should be given to independent, contemporaneous primary evidence, which consistently supports a late-1940s birth year:
Boston Public Library / Digital Commonwealth: “Miss Massachusetts Deborah Ann O’Brien, 22-year-old, Foxboro” (around 13 Sep 1971) → implies ≈ 1949.
https://www.digitalcommonwealth.org/search/commonwealth:zs25z924q
Millis High School yearbook (Class of 1967): lists “D. O’Brien” among seniors → typical age 17–18 → implies ≈ 1949–1950.
https://www.e-yearbook.com/yearbooks/Millis_High_School_Millis_MA/1967/Page_73.html
Technical note:
The IP address that changed the birth year on Wikipedia — 88.152.6.17 (Vodafone Germany) — resolves to Bensheim, Hesse (Postal Code 64625) with hostname vodafone-ip.de.
This is notable because that is the same general area where Ms. Sasson is publicly known to reside. While this does not prove authorship, the coincidence warrants a closer review of the edit’s origin and of the reliability of the supporting source.
Editorial suggestion:
Given that the primary, contemporaneous records (Miss Massachusetts 1971 at age 22; high-school graduation 1967) align with a late-1940s birth — and given that secondary authority files conflict among themselves (1949 vs 1955 vs 1959) — the article should either
(a) update to 1949 with clear sourcing and a note that some authorities disagree, or
(b) flag the birth year as disputed until a reliable secondary biography or primary civil record is found.
Given that Ms. Sasson or her management appear to monitor :::or edit this page from time to time, it would be very helpful if they could clarify why the currently stated birth year conflicts with independently verifiable biographical data — such as her documented participation in Miss Massachusetts 1971 and her 1967 high-school graduation — both of which come from independent, primary sources, not self-referential ones.
Additional observation:
On the same date (25 August 2025), the birth year was also changed in the German Wikipedia article by a temporary account (under the new IP-masking system).
While the underlying IP is not publicly visible, the edit coinciding in timing and content with the English-Wikipedia change suggests a coordinated update across language versions.
This may warrant review by administrators with CheckUser access to confirm whether the same network or editor was involved.

Further point — and this is addressed especially to the administrators defending the status quo:
Two core facts are not in dispute:
• Michel Sasson’s birth year is well-documented (1936)
• The marriage took place in 1972 — also documented in independent sources
If Wikipedia continues to insist on presenting 1959 as Deborah Sasson’s birth year, then the encyclopedia is quite literally publishing a biography that only works if readers accept that a 36-year-old man married a 13-year-old girl.
That is not “editorial nuance”.
That is not a “minor sourcing discrepancy”.
That is a chronological absurdity with obvious social and legal implications — and it collapses the moment you apply basic logic.
It is therefore indefensible that administrators are content to leave this untouched, while refusing even to mark the birth year as disputed. That is not caution. That is not responsibility. It is Wikipedia knowingly presenting a version of reality that cannot be true unless we accept a narrative that every reasonable person recognises as impossible.
You cannot have it both ways:
Either the 1959 date is wrong
— or Wikipedia is asking its readers to believe a scenario that defies documented historical context and basic credibility.
Until a publicly reviewable explanation is provided that reconciles these contradictions, the situation is very simple:
• the year 1959 cannot be responsibly presented as fact
• and it is absolutely unacceptable that the article is not even labelled as disputed
Anything else is Wikipedia choosing internal authority over evidence, secrecy over transparency, and narrative comfort over truth.
If this is the standard administrators are prepared to defend, then the credibility problem does not belong to the article.
It belongs to Wikipedia. HawkeyeCGN (talk) 20:43, 26 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Someone seems to have got their teeth into this, pseudonym Hawk Eye – we now know who this person is.
Wikipedia is welcome to check everything: birth certificate, ID cards from the last 20 years, and everything based on the social security number. Hawk Eye is wrong.
Correct date: 22 August 1959 ~2026-13618-06 (talk) 00:15, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
It is evident that this account was created solely for the purpose of attacking my argument, which is highly questionable. Your claim that I am wrong is unfounded and unsupported by credible sources. Instead, you are attempting to undermine the clear and verifiable facts I have presented without offering any solid evidence.
The birth year of 1959, as you assert, directly contradicts multiple independent and reliable sources — including the official Miss Massachusetts record and high school archives — which consistently indicate a birth year around 1949. You have not once explained how it is possible for Deborah Sasson to have been born in 1959 and simultaneously be crowned Miss Massachusetts in 1971. This basic chronological contradiction remains completely unaddressed.
It is also objectively verifiable — by consulting the article’s edit history — that the section relating to her Miss Massachusetts title was removed in the edit at this link:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Deborah_Sasson&diff=prev&oldid=1271816724
This removal is not speculative; it is a documented action in the page history. I would expect anyone claiming that the 1959 birth year is correct to explain why this verifiable career milestone was deleted and by whom. Transparency on this point is essential.
Furthermore, it is crucial to emphasise that private, non‑public documents are not acceptable sources under Wikipedia’s content policies. Wikipedia explicitly requires that sources be publicly accessible and verifiable. Any document that cannot be reviewed by the general public does not meet this standard and therefore cannot be used as a basis for editing or justifying the article’s content.
The current situation — where a clear chronological inconsistency goes unexplained and a verifiable life event has been removed without explanation — raises legitimate concerns about the integrity of the article. A responsible encyclopedia entry should not depend on unverified claims or unpublished material.
I therefore urge the administrators of Wikipedia to review and, if necessary, protect this article against vandalism or unsourced alterations. Given the clear discrepancies and the removal of verifiable information, it may be advisable for the administrators to examine the IP addresses or locations associated with the edits to ensure that no undue influence is being exerted on the article.
I expect the administrators to ensure that this article remains based on reliable, verifiable sources and that any unauthorized or unsourced edits are promptly addressed. HawkeyeCGN (talk) 19:25, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hawkeye (Re.Mi Sa.) we know where it comes from.
As the artist's former agency, we have four American passports (from the last 40 years), visas, birth certificates and even driving licences from the USA. Everything was sent to Wikipedia in its original form. Re.Mi.Sa. Hawkeye bitter, divorced ... ~2026-13837-27 (talk) 00:20, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
It changes nothing about the fact that private, non-public documents are not permissible sources according to Wikipedia’s guidelines. As long as these documents are not publicly accessible and verifiable, they cannot be used as the basis for making changes to an article. This is clearly outlined, and I stand by that.
Furthermore, no mention has been made of the obvious contradictions in the chronology of Deborah Sasson's life, especially regarding the Miss Massachusetts pageant and high school dates, which clearly contradict a birth year of 1959. These facts have not been addressed or explained, which further undermines the credibility of the submitted documents.
I am demanding a plausible explanation for how it is possible for the Miss Massachusetts photo and the high school yearbook to exist if Deborah Sasson was supposedly born in 1959. How can these two sources, which clearly place her in the Miss Massachusetts pageant in 1971 and graduating high school in 1967, align with a birth year of 1959?
Here is the link to the Miss Massachusetts photo from July 24, 1971:
Digital Commonwealth - Deborah Ann O’Brien, Miss Massachusetts
Additionally, in the article, it is stated that she met Michel Sasson at the age of 18, and that he was 13 years older than her. Michel Sasson was born in 1935. How is this possible if she was allegedly born in 1959? This is another blatant contradiction that has not been addressed.
Here is the article where this claim is made:
Daniel Grosse - Deborah und der Herr Sasson
Furthermore, the Boston Globe article about the death of Michel Sasson in 2013, at the age of 77, also raises important questions. If he was 13 years older than Deborah Sasson, she would have been 64 years old in 2013. Therefore, in 2026, she would be 77 years old, not 66 as she would be if born in 1959. Even a grade school child can calculate that 2026 - 77 equals 1949, not 1959.
Here is the link to the Boston Globe article:
Michel Sasson obituary in the Boston Globe
I will not continue this discussion unless valid, publicly accessible sources are provided that clarify the discrepancies and explain the inconsistency between the verifiable life events and the alleged birth year of 1959. Anyone is welcome to review the sources I have provided and make their own judgment. However, at this point, it seems like an attempt to "sanitize" the biography to make it better fit the fact that Ms. Sasson is once again portraying the 20-year-old Christine in The Phantom of the Opera this year.
Finally, everyone can draw their own conclusions about who is right: diverse, credible sources like the Boston Globe, Boston Public Library archives, and others, or an alleged former agency that claims to have documents that cannot be verified by anyone here, and which doesn't address the discrepancies in the biography. As mentioned, we have the IP address of Hawkeye (are.Mi.Sa.), who apparently wrote this version out of jealousy due to her divorce from MS in connection with her failed singing career. Further evidence can be found directly on Wikipedia. ~2026-14133-95 (talk) 19:33, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

It is clear that this discussion is now over for me. I have laid out my arguments and provided reliable sources, while your responses have only consisted of personal, baseless attacks. Anyone reading this discussion can clearly see what kind of mindset is behind your comments.
Since it seems that engaging in a civilized discussion is no longer possible, I have decided to escalate this issue to the administrators. I have reported the situation to them in order to protect both this discussion and the article from further disruption and vandalism.
If your responses continue to lack any constructive engagement with the facts, it will be clear that you are not interested in having a meaningful discussion. I consider this matter closed. HawkeyeCGN (talk) 20:53, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I understand your arguments; a career that never happened can cause jealousy. There are also the letters you wrote to MS. I should send those to the administrator as well. That will shed some light on the story. Otherwise, we will send our personal data and supporting documents to the administrator again. Just one last tip. No one is to blame for your failed career and marriage. Perhaps I should send you the letters again personally. ~2026-14034-67 (talk) 21:06, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Your claims are completely false and without any basis. I have never written any letters to anyone regarding this matter, nor have I received any. Your attempt to fabricate such claims is not only misleading, but it is also highly inappropriate. It’s clear that you are grasping at straws in an effort to distract from the real issue at hand.
Let me make this clear: the internet is not a lawless space. Spreading false accusations, making personal attacks, and attempting to manipulate discussions with baseless claims can have legal consequences. I will not tolerate such behavior.
As I have stated before, I have already reported this matter to the administrators, and I expect them to intervene promptly. This discussion should remain focused on facts and verifiable information, not on fabricated personal attacks.
I consider this matter closed on my end. If you wish to continue making baseless accusations, I will not hesitate to take further action. HawkeyeCGN (talk) 21:18, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
