I don't think Murray-Lyon was taken prisoner by the Japanese, as far as i am aware he was sent back to India after being dismissed from command of the 11th Indian Division. He spent the rest of the war on the inactive list. Tristan benedict (talk) 15:39, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Murray-Lyon (known as 'ML') features in John Masters' autobiography 'Bugles and a Tiger'. Masters was a subaltern in the 2/4th Gurkha Rifles and fought under Murray-Lyon in one of the border campaigns in the North-West frontier against Pathan insurgents (in 1936 I think). Masters had that highest regard for ML who he considered a very resourceful, competent and brave leader, under whom the 2/4th Gurkhas were highly regarded by Pathan fighters and fellow Gurkha officers alike. It is a bitter irony that such a distinguished officer should have his career summarily ended by the man who was ultimately responsible for the heaviest defeat suffered by the British Army.
