Clean up of Cover-More Travel Insurance page
[edit]I added un-cited copy to this lead paragraphs of this page in 2024 with the best of intentions but with little understanding of how Wikipedia works. I have deleted that copy now and am seeking removal of the message at the top of the page. MJMullins (talk) 07:09, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
Clean up of Cover-More Wikipedia page
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. Per WP:REF. |
- What I think should be changed:
I work for Cover-More and in 2024 I edited the Cover-More Wikipedia page without really understanding Wikipedia, but with the best of intentions.
I would now like to remove that un-cited copy and also, as a result, be able to remove the box at the top that talks to my conflict of interest.
This is the copy I would like to repalce:
Cover-More Group is a global travel insurance, medical and security assistance provider headquartered in Sydney, Australia. The group was acquired by Zurich Insurance Group in April 2017.[1] The group also has leading market positions in Ireland, Latin America, New Zealand and the USA where Cover-More owns Travelex Insurance Services. The global group has more than 17 million customers and employs more than 1500 people. Cover-More has operations in 16 countries including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Brazil and Argentina.
With this copy:
Cover-More is a travel insurance, medical and security assistance provider headquartered in Sydney, Australia. Cover-More was acquired by Zurich Insurance Group in April 2017.[1]
- Why it should be changed:
Because I was at fault when I made this changes in 2024 and I would like users to trust that the information presented can be cited and is objective.
- References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

[edit]Since the lead section summarizes information found in the main body of text, the usual practice is that information in the lead section does not contain any references, leaving it to be placed where mentioned in the main body of text. So I would suggest that anything being proposed for the lead section, go ahead and add the main body text proposals as well, here in the request. Please ensure any text to be replaced be included in the request. So a sample edit request might approximate the following:

- HI Spintendo and thank you for your feedback and guidance. Below is my edit request for your review and approval.
- 1. Please remove the second sentence from the lead section.
- The group was acquired by Zurich Insurance Group in April 2017.[1]
- 2. Please add the following claim at the end of the main body of text.
- Cover-More operates command centres in Australia, the UK, North America and Argentina, providing customers with round-the-clock medical and security assistance. (reference: Cover-More wins two major honours at 2025 WeMoney Travel Awards - Travel Weekly)
- 3. Please add the following claim to the end of the 7th paragraph in the main body of text.
- The company retained its Sydney headquarters post-acquisition (reference Covid brings change to insurance, says Cover-More boss | The Australian)
- 4. Reason for the change being made.
- I work for Cover-More which is part of Zurich Group, and I disclose this connection and am attempting to improve the factual accuracy and currency of this page in accordance with Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidance and content pillars. MJMullins (talk) 04:42, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

[edit]
Edit request partially implemented
The lead sentence regarding the Zurich acquisition was deleted.
The sentence regarding command centers was not added, because the directive on where it was to be placed was unclear (" Please add ... at the end of the main body of text."
) In any event, the proposed sentence contained problematic language (providing customers with round-the-clock medical.....
) (See MOS:EUPH.)
The claim regarding the Sydney HQs was added.

- Thank you @Spintendo for your help. Maureen MJMullins (talk) 04:49, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hi again @Spintendo as a result of the actions we have taken to provide thorough citation of facts, in your view what further steps would be required to achieve the necessary level of neutrality for it to be appropriate to remove the following template at the top of the page? "A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject." MJMullins (talk) 03:07, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- It is recommended that, as a courtesy, you first try asking the editor who assigned the template — in this case KH-1 — in order to find out from them if it can be removed. Since they placed the template, they are in the best position to know whether or not the issues which caused its placement have been corrected. You may contact them directly by placing a new message on their talk page. In the unlikely event that you do not hear back from them after a reasonable amount of time, kindly open a new request on this talk page using the {{Edit COI}} template. - Thanks so much @Spintendo will do. MJMullins (talk) 23:47, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- I don't see any obvious problems - if the consensus is to remove tag then I'm fine with that.-KH-1 (talk) 03:05, 16 August 2026 (UTC)

COI template removal request
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. Set |answered=no to reactivate the request if necessary. |
I am requesting the removal of the COI maintenance template from the top of this article. The neutrality issues previously flagged have been fully addressed and independent, reliable sources have been added to balance out the text.
Because I have a conflict of interest regarding this subject, I am requesting an independent editor review the page and remove the tag if the article is now compliant with neutrality standards. Thank you. MJMullins (talk) 22:21, 19 August 2026 (UTC)
- Your conflict of interest should be disclosed on your user page(User:MJMullins). If the COI is that you work for this company, you must make the stricter paid editing disclosure instead. Your general salary would be sufficient to trigger this requirement, it does not require specific payment for editing or instructions to edit.
- In the future, you should not edit this article directly, but you may propose edits via the edit request process.
- This article just describes the routine business activities of the company, not critical analysis and commentary that shows how the company is a notable company. I've added tags to indicate this; I think that if this had been submitted via the draft process it would not pass. The COI tag isn't yet ready to be removed. 331dot (talk) 09:24, 23 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you @331dot, this is helpful and I appreciate you taking the time.
- I've now added the paid editing disclosure to my user page as you directed. I understand it applies because I'm a salaried employee regardless of whether I'm specifically paid to edit, and I should have made that disclosure at the outset rather than the general COI disclosure I'd been using.
- I accept your point on the COI template and I can withdraw that request. I'd rather focus on the underlying issue you've raised.
- On notability and the routine-coverage concern: I take the point that much of the current article is announcement-driven. I'd like to work on that, and I'd rather do it properly than add more of the same. If it would be useful, I can compile a list of independent sources here on the talk page for review before anything is proposed for the article — I'm thinking of the 2013 ASX listing and the 2017 Zurich acquisition, which had substantial coverage in the Australian Financial Review and The Australian, rather than trade press and award announcements.
- Would that be a sensible approach, and are there particular sections you'd suggest trimming in the meantime? I won't edit the article directly and will use the edit request process for anything further. MJMullins (talk) 03:25, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, while I cannot guarantee acceptance, that is how to proceed. The key is that there must be critical analysis and commentary about the company 331dot (talk) 07:51, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks 331dot@331dot. I've opened an edit request below proposing independent sourcing for the IPO and acquisition sections. MJMullins (talk) 00:04, 27 August 2026 (UTC)

COI edit request: independent sourcing for IPO and Zurich acquisition
[edit]| The user below has a request that an edit be made to Cover-More. That user has an actual or apparent conflict of interest. The requested edits backlog is very high. Please be extremely patient. There are currently 903 requests waiting for review. Please read the instructions for the parameters used by this template for accepting and declining them, and review the request below and make the edit if it is well sourced, neutral, and follows other Wikipedia guidelines and policies. Remember to set the |answered= parameter to "yes" when the request has been accepted, rejected or on hold awaiting user input. |
Disclosure: I am employed by Cover-More Group, which is part of Zurich Insurance Group. I have made the paid editing disclosure on my user page and am not editing the article directly.
1. Please replace the paragraph beginning "Before Cover-More went public..."
Current text:
- Before Cover-More went public, Crescent Capital Partners owned 82.7 percent of
the company. Crescent Capital would own 13 percent of the company after the initial public offering (IPO) in December 2013. At that time, it was the first and only Australian travel insurance provider to list on the Australian Stock Exchange. Cover-More reported earnings of $13.3 million in 2013.
Proposed text:
- Before Cover-More went public, Crescent Capital Partners owned 82.7 per cent of
the company, retaining approximately 13 per cent after the initial public offering. Crescent Capital appointed investment banks to manage the float in October 2013.[1] The company lodged its prospectus on 2 December 2013, offering 260.6 million shares at A$2.00 each to raise A$521.2 million, giving an indicative market capitalisation of A$635 million.[2][3] The prospectus stated that Cover-More held approximately 40 per cent of the Australian travel insurance market, and forecast gross written premium of A$362.7 million for the 2014 financial year, up from A$304.1 million, with net profit after tax forecast to rise to A$22 million from A$16.6 million.[2] Shares began trading on the Australian Securities Exchange on 19 December 2013.[4] The listing was the third by an insurance-related company on the ASX in 2013, following iSelect and Steadfast.[2] At the time, Cover-More's Australian, New Zealand and United Kingdom products were underwritten by Great Lakes, a subsidiary of Munich Re, under an arrangement entered into in 2009 and extended in 2013.[2]
2. Please replace the sentence beginning "Cover-More Group Limited was acquired..."
Current text:
- Cover-More Group Limited was acquired by Zurich Insurance Group in April 2017 at
a price of AUD 1.90 per share, approximately AUD 722 million in total.
Proposed text:
- In December 2016, Zurich Insurance Group announced an agreed offer for
Cover-More valuing the company at approximately A$741 million (US$551 million).[5][6][7] Shareholders were offered A$1.90 cash per share plus a fully franked special dividend of A$0.05, a total of A$1.95 per share, representing a 48 per cent premium to Cover-More's last traded price before the offer was made.[8] The scheme of arrangement was approved by 99.83 per cent of votes cast at a shareholder meeting in March 2017 and by the Federal Court of Australia later that month.[8][9] Zurich completed the acquisition in April 2017 and stated that Cover-More would retain its brand and operate as a stand-alone entity.[10]
3. Please remove the citation to visitorsguru.com
The reference currently numbered 17 ("Visitor Health or Medical Insurance", visitorsguru.com) does not support any adjacent claim and is not a reliable source. I believe it should be removed along with any text depending on it.
4. Reason for the changes
The article currently relies on company and trade announcements. These changes replace that material with independent reporting from the Australian Financial Review, the Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, Reuters and specialist insurance press, and add verifiable financial detail, including the takeover premium, in place of unsourced descriptive claims.
The Crescent Capital shareholding and the stand-alone operation claim are already supported by references currently in the article (the Sydney Morning Herald float article and the Zurich announcement); I've left those citations in place rather than duplicating them here. If those existing citations no longer support the claims as written, please treat both sentences as optional and omit them.
