Yes, but it is no longer accepted. It used to be classified Sylvia marilandica. Some older books reference it that way and called the Maryland Yellow-throat. Dger (talk) 15:29, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Improvement

In my opinion, this article really needs to be improved. Despite a detailed section on the migration, other areas are mostly overlooked. Aythya affinis (talk) 21:32, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Issues with 2nd paragraph of migration section

I don't want to take any extreme unilateral action, but I feel that the 2nd paragraph in the Migration section could be deleted without loss of any substantive information.

It doesn't really add any insights.

For example,

• "One place of study on common yellowthroat migration that is unique and worth noting is Appledore Island, Maine." Whatever uniqueness there may be is never revealed in the paragraph.

• "Common yellowthroats here typically migrate to this island during the spring months displaying distinct patterns of movement and stopover ecology." These appear to be generic comments with no specific information behind them. What are the distinct patterns? What is the distinct stopover ecology?
• "Birds returning for more than the second time arrive earlier than birds migrating to the island for their first time. Every year, males tend to arrive on the island an average of five days earlier than females weighing more than the females upon arrival." This obviously needs a rewrite. But the part about females and males having different weights is just an isolated fact without possible explanations. It doesn't add any understanding about the bird.

In fact, most of the content from this paragraph is already in the last 3 sentences of the 1st paragraph. Pdanese (talk) 00:25, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

I think that "distinct pattern of movement" may be sex-differential migration (which I realize does not actually have a Wikipedia page; I might consider drafting one in the near future). However, I agree that the paragraph is long, convoluted, and hard to read. I went in and changed all mentions of "race" to "subspecies" just now, but there is more editing I would like to do. I will do some reading of the linked sources when I have the time and do some searching myself, but the second and third paragraphs could likely be merged as they are both discussing migration habits in a specific area.
