The Comeragh Mountains are a mountain range in Ireland and there was an entry on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mountains_in_Ireland so I wrote a brief article which I hope to expand and maybe others will too.

Added further details including a photo, although I hope to add a better photo over the Winter months. The Comeragh Mountains are part of the Irish Primary school geography curriculum and it is important for Irish students to be able to access this page, and hopefully add further content in the future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lukemcurley (talk • contribs) 15:15, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Capitalisation

I would have thought the correct capitalisation would be River Mahon as used in the article title and if referring to the geographical feature and Mahon river if talking about things like the source of the river. Am I incorrect in this? Munstertom (talk) 11:40, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

while looking at other geographical articles that have achieved Good status I noticed a second set of references specifically for books and scientific publications referred to throughout, I was considering starting that.

A Guide to the Comeragh Mountains - Declan McGrath

Per the edit note: McGrath appears to be both author and publisher. Making this a self-published work. Which is not ideal. Even with books.

The original 1995 edition of the book appears to be published by Waterford Regional Technical College (Now SETU) South East Technological University with only the updated editions marked as published by the Author. Does this change the assessment? Munstertom (talk) 11:22, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Rivers

I am working on building out the list of rivers and adding the appropriate level of details and references for what a "Good Article" on the Comeragh Mountains would have.

Some of these rivers are appropriate for their own article (like the Mahon River) and some will not hit that level (Tay and Dalligan definitely won't) ... The Nire Valley probably deserves its own article to incorporate the Nire River and notable entries around Ballymacarbary etc.

Asking for help and additions to build out this section. I think an overall part on the catchment area and the watertable might help add context Munstertom (talk) 13:26, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Hi. RE:

• "list of rivers and adding the appropriate level of details and references for what a "Good Article" on the Comeragh Mountains would have". I agree that a suitably referenced "rivers" (waterbodies?) section would improve the article overall.
• "help and additions to build out this section". Personally I'd suggest identifying related sources - and working forward from there. Rather than from possible text (incl. a list of rivers) - and working backwards. As there's a danger, that way, of OR/SYNTH. The NPWA conservation objectives report for the Comeragh Mountains SAC states that "As well as the Mahon River, the Colligan/Araglin, Nier, Clodiagh and Tay rise in the Comeraghs". I'd suggest this as the starting "list". The EPA's catchments project report for the Suir catchment lists lakes/waterbodies/rivers in Appendix 5. Which might also help with the starting "scope". This Three Rivers Project report has some detail on the Clodiagh and Nier - specifically mentioning the Comeraghs. Useful for expansion. In general, I'd favour sources which mention the Comeraghs specifically.
• "The Nire Valley probably deserves its own article to incorporate the Nire River". Personally I would add whatever sourced text, on the Nire River/Valley here. And, if it gets too "big", consider splitting it.
