Untitled

According to it was "built for standard high platform subway cars and interurbans". But from what I can make out from the photos on , the interurban cars had street-level entrances. How would this have worked? --NE2 06:32, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Largest abandoned subway?

Are you sure? The source is a youtube video. The Rochester subway also lays abandoned yet it has 23 stations compared to Cincinnati's 3.  Sub!  17:58, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I looked at the link, it's on Youtube but its a credible new broadcast. I don't know much about Rochester, how long is the subway system? Cincy's is a little over 2 miles long. Also looking at the Wikipedia article for Rochester's it looks like the city is filling in the subway so that would make it not a tunnel- I.e Cincy still has an unfilled tunnel. Must complete

It is never too late to complete this subway. It will transform the city. Only 2 miles long? The city of Liverpool in England has about 5 miles of abandoned tunnels under its streets - some are mothballed for later use. Stations can be cut into them. Newspaper wrote against the subway

You find in the article the sentence "Newspapers started to print articles arguing against the subway, using such rationales as the tight curve of the subway and its small tunnels to try to advocate against its completion." But I don't find any source for that. In the German Wikipedia we are arguing if the subway was also stopped because of the mass motorization and sayings against the subway. Edits I want to Make

This article fails to go into much detail regarding the proposition of the subway system and I want to cover more into that. I also would like to add bits and pieces to sections that I feel really don't cover the entire depth of the issues that arose from the subway system such as the construction and failure section and the attempts at revival section. Many Facts Wrong and Other Things

Just a note here that there are quite a few facts wrong with this article. If I get time, I may try to fix them.

Running list: The system layout in the side box (with stations, etc) is lacking quite a few, and some are improperly marked as exisiting/not existing. The planned length was 16 miles, 9.5 miles were constructed, and 2.2+0.2/0.3 miles remain. There is more than one tunnel section, most people do not get this! I updated some of this in the introduction, but there are places it needs to be fixed in the rest of the article. The subway is not owned by SORTA, it is owned by the City of Cincinnati. Cincinnati-Transit.net is accurate authoritative information about the structure of the tunnel. The author of the site literally wrote the book on the subway. He he does gloss over some sections I don't believe he liked that much/drew his own conclusions though. The image I added (currently citation 1) is by far the best map of the subways various extents. Cincinnati-Transit.net has some more detail about which tunnels were filled in (there were even more than 2 at one point) and the hopple street tunnel was partially filled in near 2010. There was a recent request for proposals in 2024 (I submitted one). No tours are offered anymore, and they haven't been offered since 2018ish. There is an entrance in the island of central parkway at the streetcar stop, aside from the portals in the north. The subway may soon be threatened by the western hills viaduct replacement project. The subway was threatened by the Brighton Bridge replacement project, but was instead given new waterproofing (I walked on top of it and I have pictures), and carefully re-covered. The central parkway vents were filled in, which has caused the mustiness of the far end of the tunnel. There is currently a plan to reduce traffic volume on central parkway (not a fan personally, it is the major thoroughfare) which could impact it. Again the irony of the streetcar passing over it. There were many above ground stations fully constructed (3?4?5?).

Hi Fenley, thanks for your detailed comment! I see that you're new to Wikipedia, welcome! As a quick explainer, any additions or modifications to the article that currently link to cited information need to be sourced from reliable sources.

I love all the youtube videos I can get on the subway, believe me, but linking to videos as sources on Wikipedia is generally subject to a number of checks, moreso thank text sources, see here WP:VIDEOREF. I also really appreciate your depth of knowledge on the issue, but know that Wikipedia is not a place for original research, and any claims you know to be true from personal experience should also have a citation with a reliable source.
