Chunwei was not a tribe!

[edit]

Chunwei was the son of Jie of Xia Böri (talk) 13:04, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

The story of Chunwei may be a misunderstanding caused by similar pronunciation

[edit]

He appears only in Sima Qian's "Records of the Grand Historian," and is not mentioned in other versions.

One theory regarding his true origin suggests that Qi (a state, supposedly a descendant of Xia) later occupied a state called "Chunyu" and made it their capital. Chunyu/Chunwei may simply be the name of a city. Hundreds of years later, when people heard that "last xia was chunwei", they would think that this city was the last Xia monarch, which was far-fetched. This deconstructed the whole story.
