Notability
[edit]As one of the co-founders of Moms 4 Housing it wasn't clear that she was notable apart from the group at the time, but think the sourcing in-article now shows that she has received WP:SUSTAINED national media coverage beyond that one event. BBQboffingrill me 03:53, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
February 2023 altercation
[edit]I attempted with this edit to write an NPOV description, correcting the implication that Fife herself was a participant in fisticuffs, when no source alleges that, and focusing on what Fife said and did. Per WP:BLP we need to be dispassionate towards both Williams and Ak as well as Fife, if indeed we name them at all or even include this paragraph at all. It's never easy to write about this "he said/she said" kind of stuff so I hope other editors will be gracious when an attempt is made to thread the WP:NPOV needle. Improvements welcome. BLP violations needing to be resolved
[edit]I am concerned that two remaining WP:BLP/WP:BLPCRIME violations remain on the page, and here are my suggestions how an uninvolved editor might remediate them:
(1) I think it would be fine to call Fife a "co-founder" in the lede, but in the first "Housing activism" sentence we should say: Fife received national attention in 2019 as one of three founders of Moms 4 Housing. The group formed after two other Black mothers occupied a vacant corporate-owned West Oakland home which clarifies that Fife herself was not one of those who occupied (illegally or otherwise) the house, instead of Fife received national attention in 2019 as the co-founder of Moms 4 Housing, a group of Black mothers who occupied a vacant corporate-owned West Oakland home which currently falsely includes her as one of the (illegal) occupiers, which she was not.
(2) The "antebellum" restored version currently mentions the "battery charge" against Fife's partner and also names him several times in the article. Sourcing says he was cited by the police (ambiguous in the current version), charged a year after the incident, but not convicted. If we are going to include the incident at all, per WP:BLPCRIME, I suggest we describe the incident but omit the partner's name[a], e.g. The incident ended when Fife’s longtime partner pushed Williams to the ground. Fife told KRON-TV that he interceded after Williams lunged at her, but Williams said he was the one attacked. Fife's partner was cited by the police and a battery charge filed in January 2024 was later dismissed. BBQboffingrill me 02:03, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- I had posted to the BLP noticeboard, but as the topic was archived after 2 weeks with no discussion, I have reluctantly made the correction myself. BBQboffingrill me 17:44, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
Notes
- ↑ Outcome of the May 2025 RFC:
"There is a unanimous consensus for Option D, not restricting the use of the name in sources or other non-content material on Wikipedia. Participants pointed out that applying a content restriction to the sources would be too restrictive for writing the article. Additionally, many editors suggested that replacement sources not naming the person should be privileged if they could be found, a suggestion which wasn't opposed in the discussion."
